    AZnother??? Another...

As a lot of others b4 me I too have had my 8800's die again........ So I am being promised an upgrade to M17x.

I'm wondering if anyone with the same spec's as my 1730 has been upgraded and what CPU GPU combo they were able to get?

I'm expecting a call soon to negotiate what I will agree to and I'd like to be up to date on what is a real upgrade or just a downgrade.

What I think you should be able to get:

    Black m17x - T9600 or T9800 - Windows 7 Home Pre 64bit - SLI 280s - 320GB x2-160GB Raid 0 - 4GB Ram - screen maybe 900p

Exactly as Rengsey listed Slammin - with the exception of the LCD. 'The Beast' has a 1920x1200 WUXGA screen - so it has to be the same.

Thanks for the replies. More questions. : )

I'm a bit surprised that you suggested T9600 or T9800. I was expecting to see a suggestion of T9550. So I checked and the T9550 is only offered in Oz. Dell M17x in Oz

Has anyone got a T9550 in an M17x? or
Know of how it runs with one?

Also I am expecting to be told that the 260m Sli is my only option (even though the 280m Sli is base at the moment here). What justification/arguement do I use to get the 280m Sli?

You bought a computer with a the top of the line card, and should be reimbursed with the top of the line card. Thats what I said, and be sure to say you want the 280m's before they make a proposal, and push the issue! I do all of this at 2am, so I dont know if they fight less but it works for me.

well i got a m17x as a replacement in AU and I got, the t9550 and gtx 260 sli despite having the 8800mgtx sli and then the 9800gt sli.

the t9550 is actually quite good I have it overclocked to 3.2ghz and its very stable and overall the machine is a better performer than the m1730.

I hated the m17x at first because its heavier, has no game panel and a crap trackpad.

But now I have some good video drivers I really enjoy it. Check my post in the Win 7 forum for a link to the win 7 drivers I use they really are an improvement.

It'd be great to get the gtx 280's but i tried and they said absolutely no way beacuse the gtx 260's are better than my old cards.

    @ Lord Anubis

That was pretty much the only/best arguement I could think of. It's worth a try.

    @Wordtothawise

3.2ghz OC well that makes the T9550 sound a bit more tasty. When you were upgraded was the 280m's in the base config?

I wouldn't be too disappointed if you're given 260M SLi as an option but not the 280Ms. I'd push the 280Ms because as said above you paid for a top end card.

Whatever you do, don't let them give you any SINGLE graphics card. No single laptop graphics card in the world will beat out the cards you have.

Processor, well, any dual core that's 2.6GHz or above.

Based on your specs, you will the get the t9600 and the dual 260m SLI... you MAY possiblye get the 280s SLI. Either way, Dell has supposedly changed their rules over the past month and they are making it very difficult to get the M17x as a replacement, so if they offer you t9600 with 260m SLI, take it and run... and you will get the WUXGA screen
