Abducted, Yes, and so far they've done no experiments on me. :p

Ok so I gave in, and baught me an m15x, even after all the warnings, I guess it's just a matter of faith, right? I think all my life I've wanted an Alienware, so I sure hope this wont be a let down, I must admit after Dell took over AW, it has made me doubt them, But we shall see, I just have a few questions, if any of you can help, I would appreciate it, Thanks.

    • Will I get a mug, ok sorry, but all the talk latly... ya know.
    • If I install Vista 64, will it mess with any preinstalled software, ie the control center?
    • Is there anywhere (other than Alienware) that I can buy a HDD smartbay?
    • Or, would I just be better off buying a bigger HDD and instaling it meself/Does that void my warrenty?
    • Does anyone else think the music you listen to (while on hold) when you call AW is backmasked with some messege saying " buy AW now"

Just a few questions, and again thanx for the replies.

Congrats on your m15x! I'm guessing you returned the Sager? What made you want to return it for the m15x?

Grats, welcome to the family. Replacing the RAM and HDD do not void the warranty, iirc.

dont be silly, of course you dont get a free mug. you get a baseball cap and mouse mat though.

get rid of the 1gb turbo if you are updating to 4gb ram as it does nothing. its only the new 2gb or 4gb cards that AW dont offer that will be of use.

good luck with your new purchase.

yes the the AW command center will work. just follow the guide posted in this forum.

Is there anywhere (other than Alienware) that I can buy a HDD smartbay?
    nope

Or, would I just be better off buying a bigger HDD and instaling it meself/Does that void my warrenty?
you can buy the shell seperately. just call the AW customer rep. i dont think it voids your warranty as i have already swapped the hard drive in the cage anyways.

Does anyone else think the music you listen to (while on hold) when you call AW is backmasked with some messege saying " buy AW now"
yes i love subliminal messages :D

    1. You can order the mug, it's not really included with every order. You can ask the MUG expert Oodle Bear for advice though :)

    2. You can also install Vista 64 Bit on your own. Getting the lights to work is also no longer a problem if you follow findvikas' guide.

    3. I believe you can order just the smart bay cage from Alienware. Then you can order a different hard drive and just slap it in the cage.

    4. You can change your own HDD and RAM without voiding your warranty :)

    5. I have no idea since I haven't heard the music yet :)

Oh and I'm also interested why you returned your other laptop for this?

Congrats on taking the plunge. Also I would have to agree, it is about faith. You have to believe your system will be awesome. :)

I got a free mug by posting my review on resellerratings.com.
They invited me to do it with a email after I recieved my AW. After I did they sent me out a free AW mug and some AW stickers(?). Very pleased with that gesture.

So the HD they put in the smartbays, are as same as the normal usage ones?

When I first got turned on to the Sager np8660, all I was seeing was people praising it, and dogging the m15x. With all the bad reviews of the m15x, I decided to go with the np8660. It was a decent looking machine, it ran fast. not a bad buy... for someone whose not as vain as I. :p In one word why did I send the Sager np8660 band for the Alienware m15x: "Vanity". I remember a post where someone mentions something about going out on the street and asking if anyone heard of Sager, that kinda stuck with me.

To be a little more detailed, After hearing that the 8660 was going to be perfect, absolute best laptop, and than after receiving it, I found it wasn't the case, It had basically the same problems the AW had, but on the plus side, must AW problems seem to be getting worked out, accept that hinge, we shall see there.

The sager was a good machine, It is just that the Alienware, is better.
