Well ive always heard good things about alienware so i decided to purchase the m15x from them. After browsing these forums im alittle apprehensive. Does anyone have anything good to say about this system? My m15x should be shipping tomorrow so im hoping i get a good reliable laptop but now i have my doubts. I know these things are usually a case by case basis so im hoping ill be one of the happy m15x owners. fingers crossed.

I enjoyed using the laptop when I reviewed it, so I hope you will too. It's a good all-around laptop - not the best laptop I've tested and no longer the fastest, but still a fast laptop in its own right.

The only consistent issue I have seen pop up is the cracking hinges, so just watch for them. There's not really anything you can do to prevent it.

What kind of specifications did you get?

A lot of people find it hard to replace parts in laptops, so in his case, he just might have saved himself from voiding the warranty or wrecking the notebook.

In my opinion an extra $100 for RAM (I found some for $50 on www.newegg.com) isn't a big deal for me.

I have been using my m15x for about 15 months now. Still very happy with it, it's combination of performance, portability and battery life is still uncontested till now in my opinion.

I purchased my m15x last month. It is still with my friend in US, so yet to see it. The good news is it is working out of the box. I have send a consolidated list of m15x issues to her. So far nothing is reported :) I ordered silver skullcap chassis since it reportedly has less hinge-crack issues.

Just to add in my 2p, had my m15x for about a year now, is a fantastic machine. Had a few problems with the keyboard and AC adapter, but AW CS has been fantastic and has sent me replacement parts very quickly (the warentee really is worth its weight in gold). As for screen wobblyness/hinge cracking, have had no problems with it, but then I have been quite (possibly over) careful with it. And the case is pretty strong even if it is made of plastic, have had several kilos of books/random stuff moving too and from uni, and it fares well being rattled around in a plane/back of a car. Its easy to upgrade (although upgrade options are not that extensive) and the performance is amazing compared to most run of the mill mid and top-end laptops. And it looks the part too :).

    You'll deff enjoy it!

The m15x is very much a 'tarnished Ferrari' of a laptop.

I love mine but my left hinge just completely snapped today.

Defnitely get the extended warranty for 3 years.

Does anybody know, from past experience even, if they offer discounted upgrades for current m15x owners if they wish the upcoming m15x refresh hardware in their current chassis? Or this basically like buying the laptop again? Wishful thinking perhaps that Alienware gives a damn about it's customers?
