Wait for the refresh for sure. ULV i3/i5/i7's are supposed to be in the works. Hold out another month or so. The M11x refresh should be announced at E3.
-
I suggest wait for the refresh, and since price is an important factor, than buy the M11x R1. There are no real problems with the R1, and the prices will be dropped. You can find a used one here in great condition for a good price.
-
That is a good deal go for it. They're still going for about at least 100 more with similar specs on ebay. In about a month or two just sell it like I am.
-
2 to 1 now I am confused lol
-
Wait for refresh.
-
Wait for refresh
-
I just spoke to cs manager at dell .He said when change over takes place based on other models price would go up at least 80 bucks. So the 100 dollors in free upgrades goes away and the price goes up by 80 buck. Is the new processor with and extra 180 bucks.

Intel i-ULVs don't even exist yet...
List of future Intel microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
He asked about CPU comparison. I've seen the video. You don't have to link it in every thread. Also I guess it depends which i-ULV they'll actually put in. I see now some have already been released...
Something like this http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47700 with TurboBoost would be pretty sweet. -
hahahaha, i see those big talker having problems now.
i read those post before many owner of m11x here claiming its not worth waiting cuz it won't be so soon and the rumors might not true and the new ULV is not much different from the new I-core series and now they see this new release and all their opinions change.
what a shameless ppl.....really.... -
Btw, punctuation for the win....
-
Wait for the refresh. You will regret it if you buy one now
-
Even with the terrible grammar and punctuation he does have a point. Most did not care and were neglecting the new ulv's until they "announced" it. I honestly don't see it happening soon because there is very limited information on anything and an article would be more professional than a youtube video at announcing future updates.

+1 vote for the refresh crew

unless the i7's soundly thrash the old core 2 (and by extension, my pentium) and leave it upturned and waving its legs in the air, i won't be bothered.
though if mine broke down and i sent it for repairs, i wouldn't mind if dell slipped in a core i3/5/7 in it, purely for the sake of having a core i3/5/7 sticker on the bottom of my machine.
if you can happily wait longer, i'd wait for reviews, first. -
Another thing I hate is assumptions. So I say wait for the refresh; because nobody really knows how the new ULV's are going to run, all we can do right now is assume. Even so, a 20% increase in performance is still an increase in performance. -
-
I bought mine back in February because 1. An alienware rep offered me 245£ off my order due to a recent refund for a defunct alienware m17x r1 an 2. I needed a laptop for travels.
My m11x has been serving me well ever since I bought it. I would like a refresh model but have no regrets pulling the trigger on my m11x r1 or on the 2 year complete care warranty
however at this point you should certainly wait for a refresh. -
I think you have to wait now until benchmark scores are released. You'll always be able to get a used or refurb M11x if you want to later.
-
if i were you, i would choose wait. its already may,24 and few more days will be june.
who knows, it can be 1st week of june or end of the june but surely it will be a worth waiting for. you won't regret by waiting a month. -
i ordered a m11x and two days later i read the post abut the dell guy confirming the refresh so i cancelled my order
i say wait for it. i know there is always new technology around the corner and if we kept waiting for the best we would never buy anything. however this refresh is only a month or so away so in this case i say wait. -
i say get it. because you got an awsome price. i just ordered mine 2 days ago too and i had about the same price 774. such an awsome deal for a machine thats already great. and even if they do upgrade the processor and put a better one in they probably will charge alot more for it and theres also the issue of battery life and heat. so imo i say buy now! and if you decide to change when the new one comes out, return and swap for the new one within 21 days of your shipment date. it takes like 3 weeks for your machine to get to you anyways.
-
It all depends if you NEED it right now.. If not then wait!
-
someone already said it will be waived if you plan to return it and change a new one. you might want to ask him 1st or email alienware to make sure of it.
-
I would get it now, if the refresh is announced in the 21 days after it ships and you're happy with what you see, return it and order the R2
-
For those who take, its a risk should considered.
For those who want 100% safe, wait for it.
it will all depend on you -
whether or not you go for a refresh or a current unit, even if you have the lowly pentium version, you will be happy with the gaming performance for most titles.
that's the most important thing.
... do you think there'll be driver updates after 2012? i don't want to be left high and dry when a new game release comes out and the drivers are buggered... -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
-
If you want it now, buy it, its your money. If the current model does want you want it to do, you wont be dissapointed.
If we all waited for the next big thing nothing would get done. -
-
I say just wait for the refresh, and buy it now...
-
If you're just looking at existing games (nVidia doesn't do DX11 on most cards at the moment anyway and no one is talking of a GPU card swap) so it's just about the CPU and then there's only a couple of current games requiring a dual core 2.8Ghz CPU that'll pose challenges. (ARMA 2, but even that'll still play.) Respect!
See this thread: Games that wont play on M11x
If you're asking about Crysis, it's noted on the M11x features on the Dell sales blurb so it's got to be good to go.
My M11x is stacked with Apache server, MySQL server (20,000 record queries), Gimp, OpenOffice, PHP, Perl, Java and a host of other 'tools'.
I even bought Crysis 1.0 just to see how it'd run on my M11x as I'm not a gamer as such.
I've had it connected via my Sony HDTV and Dell 24" IPS and to me it looks awesome. You try picking up a frog, or even finding one when the grass in Crysis looks like.. grass.
Most old games don't know about full-hd so you're really only looking at 720p.
In Crysis, I have most of the graphic setting in the left column set on high and the water in right column.
The CPU runs around 60% while playing Crysis.
DVDs play fine.
Music is way cool with 5.1 output.
I some times dock my M11x with my two 24" IPS monitors via DisplayPort and HDMI and the desktop keyboard/mouse via USB switch.
I'm sure I could knock up a Java/Perl forked/threaded application that'd slay the CPU (real-time management of 1000 Cisco switches/routers), but that's not what the M11x is about.
The M11x is a small portable notebook with a very good GPU which plays most games better than the majority of other sub 15" notebook.
It also handles most daily tasks with ease.
Any CPU upgrades/refresh would only improve the M11x, however as an M11x owner, I've not found anything that has challenged my M11x CPU thus far.
To be honest I'd be more interested in a fully functional HDMI 1.4 replacing the crap VGA.
Oh, so what I was going to say, buy an M11x. -
i would like to see a graphic card with DX11 on m11x and hopefully they make one. i don't like when a tessalation games (DX11) comes out and i can't even tried it/ play it.
-
with the current crop of dx11 games, you're not really missing much.
-
Well, then you'll probably have to wait for CES 2011. -
It does everything I want it to do, Office programs, Itunes, video ripping and an old copy of Adobe Audition audio editing program. -
this little machine is awesome!! im very happy by the performance and battery life!!! and gaming on the go, u dunt need to wait for a refresh, you will be very happy with this machine...
-
thanks for all the help. Hate to say it but tried out mx11 in best buy and it was just a little small for my taste. Was able get xps studio 16 for 700.Still think mx11 is really cool and love alienware.Who knows may change my mind in the morning. Wondering will xps studio 16 play games better than mx11.
PS still in alienware family as have a m17x -
If it had usb 3.0 it'd be perfect. too bad there is no express card slot so we could have added an after market one.
About to get mx11 .Is this to good a deal to pass up or should I wait for refresh
