I'm planning to buy a new m17x. To be honest the budget isnt really and issue but I wont wanna spend on things that wouldnt really have much of a difference. I;m in Australia so the prices are lil bloated!
The Link for the Australian configurator is provided below.

Most feature will be the same. I'm also planning to upgrade the HDD to 2 G.Skill falcon 256Gb in Raid 0. These will cost me a further 1400 aussie dollars as opposed to the Aleinware which will cost 1800. These SSD will fit wouldnt they? (sorry if this was a noob question)
Most parts will the same (maxed) unless stated below
Config 1
Qx9300 extreme
4gb @ 1333
2x 280m in SLi
This config will cost 7000 Australian dollars which is about 5.9k USD
Config 2
Q9000 processor
4gb @1066
2x280 in SLi
This Config costs 4.6 k or 3.9k USD
AS both will have the falcon SSD, the total price would need 1.4k added or 1200 USD.
What i like to know is whats the difference in performance between the 2 config and if the costs justify the performance gain. U are welcome to mix n match n make a suitable setup.
Thanks

the cost will not justify the performance gain - unless you HAVE to have the best, but there WILL be a performance gain if you get the more expensive parts

Thanks for the quick reply -

the ram will have a 0% effect on fps.....cpu and gpu's are what you need to focus on
and the difference between your two configs, assuming no OC, is probably about 15% performance -
Am I in correct to assume that it would result in a 15% increase in fps?

that is what I was referring to by performance, FPS in games

Btw what does OEM stand up? (again sorry for the noob question)

Original Equipment Manfacturer technically.
Practically it means you get only the main item and no manual or accessories. OEM typically also mean cheaper than retail version, although with my QX9300 it means REAL, vs the ES that you can buy on ebay. ES is a gray area between retail and not and are technically illegal (although that has not stopped me or anyone else buying them - they work 100% and are much cheaper - although lack any warranty whatsoever) The main advantage to OEM is you know exactly what you are getting, with ES they make many little changes to test different things and getting a real warranty.
If given the option, always go OEM/Retail rather than ES (at the same price) -
Another quick question? The g.skill falcon SSD will fit wouldnt they?

yes, ANY 2.5" sata drive with a 9.5mm height will fit (9.x at least, think it was .5)
