    Hey Guys,

Am looking at different aspects and making note of possible upgrades..

I was wondering if anybody knew of an aftermarket/third party high performance ram which will fit into the M17x and which they'd recommend?

Reason for asking is that my 4Gb of 1066mhz ram got the second lowest win score (5.9) after my HDs (5.8) and i'm almost sure i can get some more oomph out of it..

    Any ideas?

i am assuming you rated it with windows 7? since that score goes up to 7.9 or so. vista only hits 5.9 i believe as the top score.

curious though, why use WEI anyways, its pretty useless and those scores can be easily modified. i would rather be more interested in the 3dmark scores.

    my 2 cents....

Yeah, this is on Win7 :) and you're correct in your statement about the max scores too.

maybe i should run 3dmark on it instead and see what it says...

regardless, still considering getting some high performance ram :) doubt the ram in these beasts are the best there is to offer these days :)

Are you looking for faster speeds or better timings?

    Ahh decisions

I hate such decisions. It's like asking if you want a better top speed, or acceleration..having both would be too much of a luxury apparently. xD

trick question..especially since it's a part of hardware that i've never gotten into.

for gaming you need good timings, right?

    depends. ;)

I would highly doubt you see any difference unless you have some type of memory intensive application. Things like rendering video or running a high-end database application would benefit the most.

sorry....I meant to say buy some of the Kingston HyperX memory....It blows away any memory out there! 5-5-5-15 timings!! Better? ;)

(then when you figure out a good way to flash the spd of the HyperX memory to actually achieve the 5-5-5-15 timings let me know) :D

Go back to your own forum Clevoboi. ;)

I assume your talking about spd wizard or thaiphoon burner. Our system is a little too new for those programs.

wouldn't flashing it to 5 lower the speed to 800mhz. even though i know it's rated 5-5-5? @1066?

It shouldn't. The point would be to keep the higher speeds with better timings. With that said if you want to lower your speed to 800 you'll get a CL of 6.

I've used both the stock Samsung 1333 and Kingston HyperX 1066 memory. I mainly use the 1333 memory.

kewl.. I am thinking about getting a pair of the 1333 sticks myself from newegg.. not to much for them.. then all that will be left to max this system out will be the ssd's when they come down in price..

Looks the same but it will run cooler, ideal for notebooks. Looks like a better solution for datacenters when there's hundreds of sticks involved.
