Well Well well...
So I bought my new M15X for the upcoming games Age of Conan and Warhammer Online. Well I was just invited to Age of Conan Beta testing and was PUMPED!!! Downloaded all the files...started the install of the game and attempted to log on last night to test drive the game. Guess what...
"Your Nvidia drivers (v. 167.55) reacts very unstable with the game. We recommend that you update to the new Nvidia drivers v. 169.21."
So I attempted to play the game anyways (about 10 times) each time the game loads and nothing but sound and a black screen.
Isn't that a kick in the nuts. Cutting edge laptop with video drivers that are over 9 months old and not the newest versions that were released in Jan. What to do?
-
Go to LaptopVideo2Go: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com
and download the driver and modified INF file. -
We can't do that Loggie, the GPU will have forcibly lower clocks.
Unless... What if we update the drivers to newer ones, and then overclock it back to normal speeds? It's so crazy it just might work. -
will someone be the guinea pig?
-
I will personally volunteer to do so as it was kind of my idea. ^_~ I'll try it in about 15 minutes while I wait for my File Scavenger to finish. Which version shall i try?

When you get it working, post a little review of AoC!
-
<< Isn't in the AoC beta. But hey, if I get it to work, I'll post a tutorial. I'm going to try 169.09 since that's the apparently the latest on LV2G.

I was talking about Wanks. Good luck getting better drivers to work, Lessaj.
-
best of luck ^^
-
Might help if I could actually get the driver to install. : / It's not letting me. Going to try the Clevo 167.62.
-
Ok thats disturbing that AoC isn't working. Thats the game I'll be playing with the M15x if I plan on continuing my order. Could this be just because its the BETA and not the full version of the game? If I can't play AoC on my lappy then that would make me cancel my order all together
Why would other games run alright with the current drivers and now it won't run with AoC, there is more games out there with better grapics like crysis etc.... -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Age of Conan uses shaders and some DX10 features that weren't optimized well in the very old 167 drivers. The full game might require better drivers, but obviously the engine isn't designed well for older drivers, and will run much better on the 169 drivers even if 167 support is added (which it probably won't be). Alienware will release better drivers eventually.
-
well I e-mailed them about it a while back and they did not have any plans on releasing any new drivers soon, so that could be a problem for ppl whos going to play AoC
-
anyone know if the M17x is going to come out with better more updated drivers than the M15x?
-
Well it should. From what we know from Sogarth, nVidia has a driver in the works that so far works with the m15x and doesn't downclock upon using it. Mayhaps they will use that one.
-
Little update: Using another driver WILL NOT work. The reason why is because it uses the 2D clocks once you change it, and of course those clocks can only go so high, and this is why the card is downclocking with new drivers. If a way can be found to tell it to uses the 3D clocks, it will work just fine.

In a related question, I am looking to save a few hundred bucks this year (will by the 8800 next year). Do you guys think the T9300 with an 8700GT will be sufficient to run AoC at reasonable detail levels? I'm not really a Crysis player, but I'd also be curious about games like Midieval Total War and World in Conflict (not to hijack too much).
Any thoughts? -
the t9300 reaches the reccomended system requirements for AoC and the graphics card should be fine at 720p

The 8700M GT won't max out Age of Conan (maxed with DX10, you can expect a few notches above Crysis's levels of performance), but you should be able to do a good mixture of medium/high. Let's not forgetwhat the game looks like maxed (or maybe a little below maxed, not sure what the settings were in the picture), though:

i would have to say that i would not be too happy if this didnt work on the m15x, but it will. i think AoC will even be sold by AW later on when it comes out in the customisation options of the m15x
-
Holy crap! Reading this post has dropped some knowledge on me!
I did not know that the 8800 GTX in the m15x had some kind of Alienware official driver hardlock in the clock settings. So you're saying using the drivers from Laptopvideo2Go or any other non-AW drivers results in the card running downclocked? That's total insanity!
Is this a specific feature of the m15x or the 8800 GTX in general?
I wonder if the m9750 also suffers from this... -

Age of Conan is AWESOME!!!! ordered the collectors edition, cant wait to try this baby!
-
quick update.
We can run the game in window mode. Go to settings and unclick the full screen box. -
yay for short fixes
-
The current beta build does not support Dual Core Processors or SLI. So don't judge performance until it is released.
-
i know my desktop will run this, but do you think my m15x would be able to on pretty high settings? nothing like playing age of conan during lecture lol. The game def looks awesome and i have my pre-order waiting
