Alien FX system lets you create your own themes that can be activated when a program got focus. It also includes the warning light system that lets you set up your desired warning lights for CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD and battery information.
Get it on: Rotary Heart
Work in progress:
- Auto screen color effect. Change color depending on selected area of the screen.
- Auto sound color effect. Change color depending on selected range of audio that the speakers reproduce.
- Advanced system. Works without having Alienware AlienFx system enabled.

I was writing a program very similar to this for the Alienware 17R2! Looks good
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Well this system should work with all Alien FX system. Including desktops. So feel free to try that out and let me know. I'm still working with a lot of things for the system. -
My alienware was sent back for a refund, so I have no access to the 17R2. Hence why I didn't get too far with developing the application on my end.Rotary Heart likes this.

Hello
This does not work with the Alienware 18. Just to let you know.
Cheers!! -

Just got your crash report. Can you post a screenshot of the folder with all the files? It looks like it can't find the AlienFX dll -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
For those of you that have a crash error. I think that I was able to fix it. It looks like the Alien FX sdk its poorly documented and I had to include ALL the dll that the command center uses..... So right now the zip file will contain a LOT of dlls which I will not be using, but the Light FX dll (The one that controls the lights) needs to confirm that the computer is an Alienware.
In a few minutes I will upload a new version with this fixed and making the resolution smaller (the program was to big for the M11x, LOL).
Stay tuned and sorry for the inconvenience.TomJGX likes this. -

Ok update is up. Sorry for taking so long. I was including pictures for the M11x and M14x.

Hi Rotary,
Does this work for the M17x R4? What would you need from me to make this work on it? -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Yes it should work with any Alienware system. The only thing that I need is the images of the computer light zones. -
What exact images do you mean? Do you need some files or just some pictures from the Alien FX app of the different light zones?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Yes, pictures of the different light zones. Right now I managed to create an algorithm that changes the light zone image color to the color selected. The only thing that I need to make it available for other systems is the image of the light zones with the blue colors. If you run my system now you will notice that there's no computer when you are modifying the theme or warnings colors. I need the image for that panel (Left one)
Just open the Alienware Alien FX program and make all the lights blue, then take a screenshot and send it to me. With that I can enable the new pc image to my system. -
Can this install on non-alienware motherboard hooked up to a MIO / light fx controller board on an Alienware case?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
I really don't see why it shouldn't work. But it all depends on how Alienware made their dll. Feel free to try it out and report.
I'm working on my own system that works without even having Command Center installed. So if this one doesn't work, and you want to help me out finding a way to make it work with the new system, let me know so I can send you some alpha versions. -
I have an Alienware Area 51 R1 (not the triangular one) coming about next month. I'll test it on that system and using the ASUS X99 Deluxe motherboard.Rotary Heart likes this.

Out of curiosity, are you going to be releasing the source code to this or keeping it private? I'm curious to take a peak, what language did you write it in?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Going to keep it private. The system is in C#. -
Ah, that's disappointing.
I figured it was C#, but didn't want to guess
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
You are not missing much. The system doesn't have any complicated calculations or algorithms. Its just a list of colors that gets applied when the event happens. There's just a timer checking for what event is active (if any).
I will be uploading some of my algorithms to my page, in some kind of tutorial. But it most likely be the color change algorithm since its the only one that's complicated. -
Hope this helps: This is the image for my Alienware M17x R4..

Could you take the exact same screenshot but with all the zones in blue? My algorithm is taking blue as the "Default" color so that is easy to search for pixels with blue. -
I forgot what the default on-battery color was, but here's the image for the Alienware 13 and Graphics Amplifier.

Just change the zone 5 (Keyboard Right) color to blue and re upload them. Then I can use them. I will need some test from you so that we can be sure that the amplifier is being recognized by my system. (Didn't know that the amplifier could change color so I haven't done any test on one) -
Sorry about that. I thought I set zone 5 to blue and not purple.
Sadly, I don't have my GA with me. I just happen to have it in my theme (you can tell from the caution sign on the GA).Attached Files:

Well if you happen to have it in the future let me know if it works so that I can see how to include the image. One last thing, can you open my system and tell me the list of zones available? (I need to give the images the correct names) -
Seems as if your program won't start. I get the error "Can't access AlienFX system. Did you enable 3rd party access?" even though I have enabled 3rd party access.

Try replacing the LightFX.dll with the one that your command center provides. It should be in the following path
"C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\AlienFX SDK\Managed\DLL" -
Crashed. Said something about LightFX 2.8.10.0
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
I just sent you a PM regarding of this. -
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Perfect, will be adding it to the system soon. Could you please check if the system opens with your machine?
Thanks -

Just to keep the thread updated. I was able to fix this issue. It looks like the new LightFX system is different from the one I'm using. Soon I will add a new update with the new dll for the new systems. -
I get the error "Can't access AlienFX system.
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
I have been working with that, @Game7a1 have been helping me. If you want to help me get his issue fixed pm me so I can send you some tests. -
I've sent you a PM with the image.. If you need anything else let me know

New update is up. This update have a fix for the event tempo, system events, morph and pulse action.
-
help still dont know how to get it work with temps or depending on screen colors
like the video with Dominant color (all color) or is this a comming soon feature ?
thanx -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
The screen colors is a coming soon feature.
For the temps you have to create an event of type warning. There you can setup what zone to change and with what parameter. -
i got it to work but after that temp go up its does not go back to normal when temp go low or i have to make color and forget about the original theme ? thanx

You need to make a default theme, or any other theme so that it changes back to other color. There's no way that I can detect the previous color that the zone had, if you are using an Alienware Alien FX theme.
So just re create your defaul theme in my system and it should change the color back. -
i mean the default theme what event should it be because when i create a new theme it just say simple then i have to make event so the event should be action or warning ? and then default ? or nothing
and the duration is that in sec ?
thanx very much -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Create a theme. A theme can conatin different action events and different warning events. A theme is just a folder where all your events are going to be saved.
An event is what you eant the leds to do and when.
So you start by creating a theme, lets say that you name it Test Theme. Then you create your warning event. You want this event to be activated whenever your GPU temp is above 80, even if you are in the desktop so you select the default type in the drop down menu.
Now go to the warning color selection and select your desired color for your desired zone and select the GPU temp and the range of temps, 80-100. Now click apply.
Now go back to the theme page and add other event, this one will be of action type. Action type contains all the normal color changes like, static color, pulse, morph. Then if you eany this action to be called always selrct the default type.
Then again select all the colors that you want for this event. Finally click apply.
Action are called when the type you selected is activated.
Warnings are ONLY called when the parameter (temp, load, clock, etc) is within the range and the type is active. You can have a warning that only gets activated when a specific game is running.
The duration is still on early stages. I'm still trying to get it in seconds, but right now its not in seconds. -
hello bro how is it going with the alien fx did u get to update for Dominant color (all color) ? thanks
-

I'm working on it. I am also working with the stand alone program that will run without the need of Alienware AlienFX installed on the computer.katalin_2003 likes this.
