It costs $49 when you order the system. I paid for it. When my system came I had two DVD's with it. The Vista DVD and the Alienware Drivers/Apps DVD.

Is the Vista DVD their Respawn disk?

I'd like to hear from anyone who didn't order the "AlienRespwn Image Recovery DVD" - Did you get a Vista DVD?

Did anyone get something actually labeled "Respawn"?

(I am calling them DVD's but really I don't know - they could be CD's)

I didnt order one and got two cds along with my system. A Vista installation one and an empty drivers cd :p

Maybe they gave you the Respawn DvD instead of the Vista one since they are pretty much the same (except if you want to do a clean install of course). Or they just forgot :D

I didnt order the respawn as I knew they would include the app cd and the vista dvd. If i am going to reinstall all i would do it from a fresh start anyways so the respawn disc was a waste of money IMO.

If you got a respawn disc it would be a separate disc included.

The Vista disc is just the operating system and nothing more.

Yeah, you should have gotten the OS disc, resource dvd, AND the respawn dvd.

    Call Dell and complain :)

    Next Question:
What does the Alien Respawn DVD look like on your online Order page? What item number is it?
I am looking at mine and can't find anything that looks like it. Maybe I didn't order it. That doesn't make sense though - I alway try to get the CD's (DVD's) for that kind of stuff.

Hi JBBW, you should have received the ReSpawn discs aside from the two included with the system manual. If you did not receive the ReSpawn kit, please contact us at 866-287-6727 (Option 3 then 1) or via email at [email protected]. If you ordered the new M17x, please contact us at
    1-800-624-9897 or online.

    Enjoy your day!

Wow - now THAT is service. Thank you for the info Rose.
I am not sure what to do though. I know I don't want to bother with Customer Care if somehow I didn't select the option to buy the Respawn kit. As a rule, I would have. I wish there was a way to look at breakdown of the costs in my order.

I believe it will show up in MyHive. Login to your MyHive and check the breakdown there.

You could also try to PM AW-Rose your Agent ID and see if she'll check it out for you.

    No myhive for M17x owner's.

JBBW, call and complain anyway - I bet you get it regardless if you paid or not :)

No way. Besides my recently aquired allergy to Dell Customer Care and the fact that the respawn disk would have really helped when I fixed their mistake * with my hard drives; I am not the kind of person that would complain just to get something free. If I paid for it - you bet I would complain. But I can't find the respawn disk listed in my order. I can't add up the cost on the parts from the website since the prices have changed. Even the pdf Invoice has everything lumped into one big number at the top.

*I ordered an M17x with two 320Gig drives in a raid 0 striped configuration. I got two drives but only one was in the stripe. The other was connected to the raid controller but wasn't included in the raid - or visible by windows. Somehow, they created a stripe using only one drive! Anyway, customer care told me to redo the raid and reinstal using the vista disk. I did and now I *think* everything is back the way it should be.

To each his own, jbbw :)

Your not missing anything anyway. The respawn disc is not something I would buy anyway because a clean install is the best way to work out factory installed kinks....

With the money you spend for the respawn dvd you might as well buy Acronis lol :p

Same result and you can use it on all your systems instead of just your current OS.

Unfortunately the acronis cd I tried to use would not recognize the nvidia raid. Otherwise I would have done that.

Hey - anyone know what the Respawn CD was called on their online Order page? And the code it had?

The respawn is basivcally a factory image of your hard drive (with all of your drivers and apps installed).

The os dvd is exactly that - the os. Would be no different than buying an OEM copy of Vista.

Oh... And here I thought it was their fancy name for a Vista disk, and that I wouldn't get one if I didn't order it... thank feck I didn't, talk about pointless... (unless of course you're extremely lazy )

using the included vista disk, you could make a slip-streamed copy of vista with all the latest drivers... completely, conveniently packaged in one dvd...

    Same people make both....

Seems i got mixed up you need Vlite not Nlite

    Nlite is for trimming
    Vlite is for slipstreaming
