Hey folks.
i recently got a virus on my m15x, from a download, and it basically did mess it up. ive dealt with viruses before, but this one literally crashed the laptop everytime i tried to switch user or log off. so, i went about using respawn to get the laptop back to the factory settings, from the partition on the hard drive. but this resulted in a lot of blue screen crashes, even after just about managing to update all the drivers and bios, so i basically though f$%^ this, and completely formatted the laptop, and reinstalled using the vista recovery disc, bascially, a fresh install, without any drivers. so, yes, it is working now, all drivers are installed, but odd little things keep happening, like usb devices not being recognised and it generally feels too slow, nowhere near as quick as it was thats for sure. so, ive got the respawn disc, but my little alienware book says i should also have an image disc? i only have one disc. anyone know how to do it from disc? any info is greatly recieved

As far as I know, the AlienRespawn disc is an option when you're building your laptop. Getting it on a DVD costs a little extra and if you didn't order it along with your laptop, you'll only get the regular Vista reinstallation DVD. My m15x came with AlienRespawn on a separate partition on the hard drive, but it was taking up space so I uninstalled it to free up that space. If you're reinstalling Windows Vista, you might want to check the Alienware knowledgebase and MyHive as I recall there's a document there detailing the proper installation order of the software and drivers and also to make sure you got the latest drivers.

Just boot from CD thur your bios, insert your Alienware recovery/respawn and follow instructions. That's if you have it, the other CD is all the drivers etc.

Opps pls delete thread!

delete thread? why? i have the respawn dvd, but when i tried to use it, it comes up with an error after starting to install the image file, and then just stops. so ive basically had to reinstall using the vista disc, and then downloading all the drivers of the AW website. its working now, obviously took a bit longer than using the respawn dvd?(i assume anyway)
i also worked out that it was the intel turbo memory that had been blue screening me, as the driver on the AW hive is an old one, and once id updated, no more blue screens!!!!
