If you don't get it your computer could explode.

    Seriously. It could.

the respawn dvd is almost pointless. The recovery information comes on a partition on the hard drive so the respawn dvd is only needed if the hard drive completely fails. It's a waste of 49 dollars don't get it.

no prob bro, you actually can make a respawn dvd from the included recovery data in the hard drive partition. Cost you about 15 cents instead of 49 dollars.

I've had two Alienware Respawn CDs. Neither one of them worked for the laptop I had (THANKS, ALIENWARE!).

    $50 lost for each disc.

You know there was a time when these discs were pretty valuable. My original area 51m that I bought about 7 years came with a respawn recovery disc from Alienware.

Now the weird thing with the copy of Windows XP it had on it was this; It didn't require a validation/cd key. I can only assume that Alienware was given a version of Windows XP for their computers that didn't require any validation.

Well long story short I exploited the crap out of it and I have probably used this recovery disc from alienware at least on 10 computers, most my families.

So thanks alienware... The $49 dollars or w/e it cost me back then was well worth it :)

lol not sure you want a 7 year old copy of Windows XP.... just imagine how many times you will have to restart to update the damn thing to SP3. Solution: rrrrrapidshare.

You have a guide on how to do this?

The only possible reason I know of for having it is if that when you install another operating system you lose the ability to use the partition to do a respawn (without third party software like Norton Ghost for example). So having the respawn dvd allows you to put it back to factory conditions if for example you no longer want the new operating system, or you're going to sell it or something.

Just get a backup & restore program like Acronis, make your own disk that is 10x better (and cheaper, Acronis is like $10 when its on sale)

The great thing about this is you can make the backup AFTER you have installed your countless games & programs and if you ever have to restore you can restore to that point and save yourself tons of time/trouble to do it again. Or just keep a up-to-date backup so you can restore to what your computer was like right before something blew up.

I more or less killed my first m17 by plaing with the os^^ But I had no Respawn DVD ... and the problem was ... I not only killed the Backup as well, I even wasn't able to reinstall all that it was like before (has some problemes with the drivers) ... so I asked a AW guy for help and he ment my only chance is to use the 2 week free send back^^ And so I did and bought a better m17 :D (prices had droped so I jumped from a P8400 to a T9400 for 100€^^)

And this time I bought a 7€ Respawn DVD :D
Now I am using W7 so the Respawn DVD is senceless but I think it's good to have one even when you sell the notebook^^

    Greetings
    Julian
