    Hi,

Have purchased a m15x (just in phase 5), and have just realized that I forgot to add the Recovery dvd to the order - really silly mistake I know!
So have two questions to any one who has purchased from alienware:

    1) Am I right in thinking that by not adding this to my order, they do not supply and form of recovery dvd at all? So should the hard drive pack in, or I wanted to reinstall everything beginning with the OS i cant?

    2) How easy is it to add something to the order? (I cant seem to find it in their 'gear shop' to buy it separately)

    Thanks very much,
    Chris.

I wouldn't bother with that DVD. It's basically an image copy of your system. The only thing it gives you is that you will not have to install drivers if you choose (or have to) reinstall your system.
More, you have it installed on a partition, so you will be able to do it if you do have a problem.

Bottom line... it wasn't a mistake. A mistake is paying £20 for it. More, changing orders can give them an excuse to postpone your order. That happened already (with small things, like Windows Home to Ultimate).

ps: You will receive a Windows Vista DVD, a drivers disk, etc...

if you do want to add something to your order, do it after you get your machine. you can usually get a discount if you order some assessories later.

Oh, didn't realize I got the vista dvd as well, definitely wont be adding to the order then, will spend the money elsewhere (yet another game probably :)).
    Thanks for all the help.

im not sure if all the m15x have it but when you boot up the first screen says press F10 for respawn. can anyone confirm that this is on all machines or is it only there if you purchased the dvd disc.

just make an image of your OS once you have all your settings just right. Recovery CD/DvDs are a waste of money. Plus not only do they give you the Vista DvD they have a recovery partition on the HDD

All the laptops have the option of hitting F10 during boot up to access that option.

by the time u need to format new drivers etc will hopefully be out.. (and if not its worth looking at that point any way) making the DVD completely useless.

if your a novice PC user the DVD may be needed.. otherwize its really not for u

Interesting thing is, even with a discount, I ended up paying more for the blu-ray writer then I would have if I had had ordered it from the very beginning. But yes, basically the respawn dvd is a waste of money.

I have used Alienrespawn on my m9750 but not via the CD, just by pressing F10 on booting up.

Choosing the "complete" option it completly (funny enough) wiped everything i had on my hard drive and restored it to when i recieved the laptop.

One very unusual thing though is that it kept my Steam directory including all my games and mods.. including one mod i just installed that very day.
(im guessing it kept it as its the largest and most used directory in my hard drive? maybe alienrespawn is some kinda intuitive software?)

Sooo... i guess its not exactly a reformat, a "respawn" of some type.. yet it erased every other single thing i had installed from when i first received the laptop.. weird indeed.
