    Hello all,

I just received my M17x (By the way, I upgraded to firmware A03, the last one) and I'm having a serious problem with the last version of AlienFX (1.0.53.0):

When I try to associate an event or an application to an advanced AlienFX theme, an error is shown: An error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned... (I'm translating it from my french version). And here is a screen capture:

Details: I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit) that I installed over Windows Vista (64 bit) by mading an update. Also, I tryed many times to reinstall Command Center cleanly and properly, but no way, the problem is still here...I searched all over the internet and the Dell official forums, nothing...

EDIT: My M17x is the first one, not the R2 version.

    Thanks for your help!

I wonder how do they do when they sell systems with Windows 7 already installed on it...they sell it knowing that Command Center won't work correctly on it? That's silly.

The version that comes with the M17x-R2 on the Resource DVD is 2.0.14 A04 Beta. So far I haven't had any issues with it other than it shows the Red Shell when I have a Black one. Not a big deal but I would like to know how to change it since it was Black before I wiped the HDD and did a clean load...

You could try that one, but last I checked it's still not on the Drivers Download section yet.

I think that's risky because Command Center installation often automaticly update the firmware. That could damage my controlers, no?

Yes, every time you install CC it will update the firmware if needed. The tags on my resource DVD say M17x Windows 7 64-bit and it does seem to work fine.

But yours is M17x-R2, mine is the first model. (Sorry! I totally forgot to tell you that before.)

True, but I am pretty sure the AlienFX boards are the same. Once they have a final release I wouldn't be surprised to see this one for DL on both the R1 and R2 pages.

I prefer not taking the risk, as I just received this M17x (after 5 mounths of waiting, because I had to do a lot of things to get it from where I am, Burkina Faso! :p). So I'll wait till they publish it officialy on the download page.

Found the solution: I did a "clean install" of Windows 7 instead of the update from Vista and it worked!
