I noticed that several m17x and m15x owners had some key issues with the AlienFX Keyboard I was wondering if we have the same issues with the Non-Illuminated Keyboard.

Are they mechanical identical (excluding the lights)?

I have the felling that the AlienFX Keyboard can not handle the heavy duty ...

The key issues are just due to bad keyboards. They will send you a new keyboard.

Now the lighting problems is due to software issue

When I get a new computer I reinstall windows. Why I rather have a new install so I can setup on a clean install. So in the long run it faster.

there is no difference in the keyboards other than the lights. you shouldnt be too concerned about the keyboard issue. if one of your keys fall out just call customer support and they will send you a new keyboard. i doubt that the one is worse than the one with no lights. its not like the lights get in the way of your typing since they are flat dots that light up.

What's the point of getting an m15x without the lights?? :) Don't worry about the lights, they don't in any way affect the keyboard.

The Illuminated keyboard was the number one thing I wanted in the m15x. I've never had an Illuminated keyboard, and I wasn't about to miss the opportunity to have one (especially in an Alienware). To me, the keyboard is a highlight of the m15x.

the keyboards are identical as far as I know because I read of a guy who ordered the non-illuminated keyboard but was able to activate the LEDs by some registry-editing.

Please bear in mind that the m15x illuminated keyboard has a separate connector for lighting. The non-illuminated keyboard does not have this connector.

I accidentally ordered my m15x with the non-illuminated keyboard, but I now realize that I want the illuminated one. It arrived earlier today, and I'm wondering how I can get the keyboard illuminated. Can anyone help?

i doubt that person noticed anything wrong with the m17x keyboard since at the time that was posted no one got their m17x yet.

there is no difference between the keyboards besides that it lights up. if a key comes off AW will just replace it.

Yeah the m15x without the lights is kinda well worthless (just a silver notebook otherwise) I'd at least want a nice flashy blue or something if no lights.

you can just call customer support and say you want to buy a illuminated keyboard. you just have to install it yourself after that which is pretty easy.

I have an m17x without the illuminated keyboard, which I ordered because I wasn't bothered about the fairy lights. However, the keyboard is the same, just without being lit, which means that the markings on the keyboard are translucent and without the illumination this makes it hard to see in dim light. If I had known that at ordering time, I would have gone for the alienfx option.

I realize it's probably a bit naughty but is there any way to enable/reconnect the lighting or does one have to buy a new keyboard unit?

either the connector isn't seated properly, or you installed the drivers in the wrong order.
