I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I have a feeling that it is something very little and foolish...

    mark@Alienware:~$ sudo java -jar AlienFXLite-0.4b.jar -s
    Unable to access jarfile AlienFXLite-0.4b.jar

Any help? BTW, do I have to move the .jar file somewhere specific, or just leave it on my desktop? (using m11x)

    Hello,

First of all I would like to thank you for this great tool.
It's especially usefull to me because I have a problem with my AlienXF card. It broke down when i updated a version of CC. I don't remember whoch version it was, but i do remember it was the first one i got from the Dell website :).
Anyway i red long and in many places and tryed many things. Now I know nothing is physically wrong with the AlienFX card, but somehow the software got really screwed up. No reflashing of any newer version of CC worked and the card was undetectable by any software, up to a few days ago when at work we had some fire drill and they torned off the power, and we all left the building. When i came back inside, the power turned on and a few of the lights on my M17x R1 were on. Well it's now detectable by the LED TESTER and your application. The CC still doesn't work on it. Now i still have a problem. Your AlienFX Lite(0.04b) application works on my system (win7 x64) with the glitches mentioned by other users - only being able to apply once, then restart needed, communication error sometimes. However non of that matters to me :D. It is able to do what i need it to do. Set the lights on on some color ( /cheer). However it has no keyboard zones. It just has one keyboard field.

Is there some intended reason why this would happend ?
Does the application try to detect what laptop i have ? If so that might be the problem, because as i said the card went "nuts" :p

    Any thoughts please ?

And I just want to add one more thing. This forum helped me a lot with my problem and I am extremely thankfull.

Wattos, fantastic app you've got here. It worked great for about one week, and then as i was playing around w it, it crashed. now every time i launch the .4b i receive the error message

" The application was unable to communicate with the alienfx device. The device is not present, or the application lacks sufficient rights to access the device."

now im stuck w absolutely no light, bar the alien head power button flashing constantly. and the back lid occasionally works to the profile i set it using ur software while on battery.

Ive reinstalled java and the application to no avail. i am running as administrator. Does anyone know of any possible solutions?? Any help will be Immensely appreciated.

ps my computer is an alienware m15x ripley model, windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.

Is it possible to import CC themes or share themes that you make with Fxlite?

Is it just me or does the alienware head not change color? Everything else does except that one.

    nvm, I realized my problem.

Thanks for this, I hate Alienware's applications for their slow, bloated GUI's. Using a M11X R2.

What I'd love to see though is a way to switch theme by running the .prof file. So I can make AutoHotKey do some automatic profile switching.
    That and some smoother transitions.
How come you can only put in two command blocks for the power button? Is it a system limitation?

You don't need sudo if you have read and write access to the usb device. You can have this set automatically using a udev rule. I'd give you the rule, but I'm not running Linux on mine right now. I forgot, does it give an error with a device path when you run it and you aren't sudo? You can also just add chmod 766 /sys/dev/whatever to the rc.local file if you don't want to mess with udev.

There isn't any. Your laptop is completely different, using a completely different system. As far as I know, your laptop's lights physically can't change colour.

Same here; I really wish it would work for the R3 as there's a really nice light purple that is only achieved in the middle of a morph step that I want to have as a constant color.

Hello, I've been looking everywhere ever since I got my M17X, is there any way I can make my keyboard flash when I get an IM from aim. I saw elsewhere on this forum that you,Wattos, mentioned writing a similar thing for the windows live messenger, just wondering if this was possible for aim?

almost forgot... i have the m17x r1. and what i meant by extra buttons is after i programmed the code i right clicked and ran as admin and the console was very stripped compared to the video's tutorial. hmmmm....please reply

Well after careful review i'm starting to wonder if it was even worth posting because the hard reset didn't work and no one has replied to anyone else with these identical issues so either a)we screwed our sh#$ up and nothing we can do bout it like disclaimer tells us in 1st place or b) no one is listening to us anymore cause we're screwed....either way lmao cause i just trashed 5k unit.....dueces....!!!!!!!!!

Well, after 3 hard reset/power drains I'm convinced it's fried. I do remember at first when I executed the shortcut as admin the lights powered down at that point. Keyboard and Logo under the display screen. I think my last option is a complete partition reformat yada yada yada...dunno...all of these brains and no answers. Well guess tis my fault anyhow.....lol

I'm not one for bumping but its just one of those small bugs that annoys. Doesn't seem like anyone else has had this problem. I'm thinking I may have to call up my warranty and just say the lights died.

    Any help would be appreciated.

is 0.4b supposed to work with M17xR3 ?

if no, does anybody plan to add support for it ?

if no, it would be nice to post a Howto so that anybody can add support for present and future versions of Alienware machines.

I just installed it and had the same problem. It sounds like your shortcut isn't created right. You can't just run the alienFe.jar file... Your short cut has to run the javaw.exe file (with the working directrory set to Java) - Just like a prior post on this thread said btw.

    1. Find the Javaw.exe file (where you installed java).
    2. Right Click and drag to create a shortcut. Now shortcut is setup properly.
    3. modify the short cut properties' "Target" setting to add the following command line options:
    Either...
    -jar [alienfxlight.jar with full path]
    or
-jar [alienfxlite.jar with full path] -s

Second option just starts as a service.

    BTW +REP TO THE AUTHOR!

What is this xxxlite software that has more functionality than the original??!??!!! Great Software!
    • Left and Right front panel are independently controlled
    • More controll over the power light (more states possible)
    • More colors possible (I can create a dim almost black color for my night-time scheme)
    • Eats far less resources than the original AlienFX

    Thanks Again!

    Great job on this Wattos!

One question: whenever I boot the computer, it starts with the FX Lite profile, but then jumps back to the normal Command Center colors, and I have to manually change it back to the FX Lite color scheme, seemingly because FX Lite doesn't run on startup and CC takes over. Is there a way to either have FX Lite run on startup or simply override CC to prevent this from happening?

    Thanks!

When you run this, should the normal Alienfx program be completely closed out? When I'm trying to set my grill colors, it seems to only light one up or both will light up and one will go out. I have a m11x r1.

    Hey everybody !

I'm developping a new driver as Wattos don't have time anymore !
In order to do it more easily and for a lot of people to join the construction of it, it is made in python !

So far, I have been able to get the Comand Center NON ADVANCED functionnality to work for an M11XR3 187c:0522 !

This driver intend to be an universal AlienFX Control Center ! Indeed, the support for M11X, M15X, ect ! would be really neat !

So it will be coded in a way that makes it easy to add new computer as well as new functionality !

Check it out there : https://code.google.com/p/pyalienfx/

Any help is more than welcomed !
