AlienFX Pidgin + Winamp plugin

Another m11xr2 user here, cant get it to work, as soon as i try to configure it, winamp crashes

 

Hi, another M11xR2 user here, have the lastest version of command centre and winamp. When I play a song, the lights flash for a few seconds then stop flashing. I have to disable and enable alienfx to get it working again, but the lights stop after a few seconds (again!). I have disabled advanced settings for alienfx. Ingrater, if you're still there, I would love to help you with the plugin.

Alright so, I uninstalled my cracked winamp, and installed the free version off winamp.com, and this works perfectly, how many r2 users are trying to use this with a cracked winamp, and not having it work?

 

Um. Hopefully, none of us are. Using cracked software is not a good topic for this forum.

 

Just to confirm, to disable advanced settings all we need to do is to uncheck the box labeled 'Enable Advanced Settings' near the top left of the alienfx? Thanks.

PS: I'm using the free version from winamp.com

 

Same thing here, Running free v5.601. Double checked all locations and they are right but when i start the plug-in it freezes.

I have an Alienware M11X R2, i can't seem to get this plugin to stay running, It Works for about 10-15 seconds and Stops responding to music, if i turn off the alienFX with the FN key, it runs again for 10 seconds and stops again, If anyone has a fix for that, help would be appreciated.

 

This plugin worked fine for me, but it did not take very long (about a day) for me to lose interest in flashing lights. I think my teenager was more impressed with it than I am. Also, never cared much about the psychedelic visualization themes in Windows Media Player.

Maybe it's sort of "disco thing" and I am a gray bearded metal-head.

At any rate, one thing that I found myself pondering is if this plugin is potentially harmful to the AlienFX system in any way. I also wonder if the pulsating current, which these systems were never designed to experience, is what is causing issues for the M11x and M15x users that cannot get this to work correctly. Perhaps a limitation in the circuitry (by design) to prevent problems from erratic power supply?

 

Yeah but the support for the M17X came in A While back, If you look though the earlier pages of this thread, it has People commenting on problems with the plugin for the M11X R1,R2, It's very temperamental (which wouldn't surprise me because support for the M11X's only came a few versions back) but if anyone has any pointers for how to get this working on these working,

Probably not enough R3's in circulation to know for sure.

if the developer wants to send me some beta, i would be a guni-pig for him

I'm not sure why they couldn't get this working on the R3. I'd hate to lose it. Ive run it on my R2 and love it. We listen to a lot of music on here.

 

I'm currently having exams, as soon as I have some more spare time, I'm going to look into getting this to work on the R3

 

I know it doesn't work with mine. I received it a little less than a month ago and still have yet to come up with a solution. The issue arises when I click start or config under the visualization plugin section in preferences. Winamp will freeze about 2 or 3 seconds after doing so. It is my understanding that a few other people have the same issue going on, but not all of them are using the m15x. Could it be that the newest version of Winamp is incompatible with the plugin? I am also more than willing to help in any way I can, Ingrater (although I do understand you are busy with exams.).

 

I just updated Winamp to v5.61.3133 and the AlienFX plugin is no longer visible in the visualizations screen. I checked whether the two dll's and the config.xml files are still located in their respective directories and they are all present.

Has anyone else experienced this, in which case have you found a way to reactivate it please?

Hey there, 7leagueboot, i also installed the last version of winamp on my R2 and the plug in works like a charm..no issues with it. Try to replace the .xml file again(fresh start) or even the .dll's

 

If your m17x still runs it with the most up to date version of Winamp, then it can't be an incompatibility issue. Like Bitwize said, I don't think it wants to work on the newest m15x. I've checked to make sure everything is in the right location, and have followed the instructions to the dot. Any ideas of what changes were made to the latest version of the m15x that could cause this to occur?

You might want to check out that video. I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but it looks like it'd handle disco music pretty well. Make sure to check out the description for how he configured it.

I love your videos, Lord Zath. I can't tell you how many times I watched them when my Alienware was on its way. Unfortunately, I cannot get the plugin to run on my m15x, but I'm staying persistent.

 

I believe that the new Command Center has ruined the Winamp plugin as well as the AlienFX speed and fluidity. I really hope Dell release another CC that allows us the flexibility we had with AlienFX previously.

 

weird I didn't realize it. I just recently had to do a windows reinstall, so maybe I should try downloading the plugin to see if I'm having the same issue...

 

Can anyone confirm this works on the R3? Also, are there any updates to this thread/plugins?

 

I have some updates:
The plugin and the LED test work both not for my new M17x R3. The message is "Device not found". Sicne the LED test also does not work, I am sure that it requires a small code update.

A while ago I wrote an email to Benjamin Thaut (btw. very friendly contact).
He asked me to look up some hardware IDs in order to add the exact hardware ID to his plugins. Just send back an Email to him with the informations. I hope I didn't forget anything important.

He said that if the R3 behaves same as the other ones (no changes with the real inner driver), then it may be very easy for him to add support for the R3.

As soon as there is an update, I will check it (+2 days delay until I check my emails ^^)

 

yeah he's a real nice guy. I let him take control of my M17x via teamviewer. no issues and it was fun talking to him via notepad!

How new are we talking? I bought mine last December and the plugin works for me.

The only problem I have with is the control bar, alien head, and alien eyes which remain the solid color but don't go dark with the other lights (keyboard, logo,speakers etc.) Anyone know how to fix it?

 

Mine was purchased in late January and arrived in mid February.

 

och sorry, my mistake. I mean i need a config file (that where you configure the lights with the bars) because i can´t configure them, my config look crapy.

I got the Alienware M11X R1

 

I can't get it to work.

 

The only difference I can think of between yours and mine would be the Bios update that was released in late January, but I'm pretty sure the tech flashed my laptop with the new bios about a month ago. Did you have to upgrade it?

 

Nah, I haven't bothered updating the Bios yet. I think I still have A06.

I'll try flashing it when I get home. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: Flashed the Bios to A09. Nothing has changed. Winamp still freezes after trying to launch the plugin.

 

We should have the same computer as of now so I don't understand why this would be happening to you but not me.

One last attempt, I'm using winamp version 5.601 (x86) Dec - 9. Maybe that could be it?

hey ingrater will you be able to release a new version with support for the r3???? the alien fx is the same maybe a couple small changes are needed thx. if u want u could send me a tester and i will report the issues to you. thanks ir lord zath if ur technically inclined.

If you could get it up and running (the beta for R3), I'd be glad to test it out with the 2 R3s I have right now (since one of them is going back to dell).

Anyone got this fully working on the m11xr2? Seems to work intermittently, and sometimes crash AlienFX.
Also going to add that I can get it working for a song, but after it goes to the next track the lights shut off.

 

I've been trying to get a hold of Ingrater since February, but to no avail. It's a damn shame, really. His plugin is such a good idea, and I wish it was more available to AW users. I know he's busy with schooling, but it'd be so great if someone could at least pick up from what he's accomplished so far.

 

Sometimes I wish I had majored in compsci rather than polisci in college lolz.
