I have had my Alienware m15x - r1 for over a year.
THE PROBLEM:
AlienFX shows a picture of an m17x and has all the configuration options for one of them (it might not be the m17x, it's a different laptop anyways...)
It shows the keyboard as having 4 different colour zones which don't work. My alienware logo won't light up even though the picture in alienfx shows it should light up etc.
I THINK I KNOW WHY:
About 6 months ago, i totally wiped the system and reinstalled windows Vista x64 (the system shipped with the 32-bit version).
Reinstalled all the alienware software and I'm not sure which software asked me this, but it was to do with updating the firmware. And a list of options came about what model alienware laptop I had. I clicked on the wrong one, (there were options such as m17x with lightpipe, m15x with lightpipe, without light pipe, etc... I can't remember exactly as it was ages ago). Consequently, the firmware must have been updated and then the picture and options in alienFX changed to the different laptop. (the picture shows a laptop with a numerical keypad...)
Have spoken to alienware and they want 40euros to tell me how to sort it as it's out of warranty...
someone must be able to help?
AlienFX still works, just not as it should. I can't get the

Hi MaverickUK82,
Remove command center using "add-remove programs." Then download and install the most recent version of command center.
Thanks,
Gabe -
I have version 1033...
I think it's to do with the model it thinks it is...
have uninstalled comand centre and reinstalled it many times...
when installing it, it does say it's updating firmware, but doesn't give me the option to choose which model I've got...
It's stuck on the wrong model.
AlienFX tester skips the firmware bit, sets the LEDs to red, but fails when setting them to green... -

What kind of company want to get you €40 to show you how to "sort it out"??? I imagine they say: Hey, just wire transfer me €40 then I will tell you the secret right?
If its really that bad you may want to back up the system and do a clean install. It definitely will help. Not the best option tho but still better than losing your hard earned money. -
Ok... been messing about with some registry tweaks, it now thinks its a m15x ripley, not a skullcap...
any ideas? -
Which means, i've got the alienware logo back, but now the keyboard won't light up...

Well SCREW YOU Rudolf! - ! - lol -
I now have it thinking it's a m15x skullcap - which it is...
changed MDRipley to MDSkull cap in the registry, but the keyboard won't light up now...
How can I fix that? it's not even selectable in AlienFX -
-
I have fixed it! Following a thread on here about enabling the keyboard... why don't you try that?...
try a search on: "AlienwareFXController asus alienware regedit" -
Create a new theme in the menu. That allowed my keyboard to start working again in 7.
-
Sorry, that search won't work...
"AlienwareAlienFXController asus alienware regedit"
that'll bring up a post on how to get your keyboard fixed...
and for aliensense to work, you have to install that FACap thing after you've installed everything else. I had that problem also.
AlienFX thinks m15x is m17x
