Just wanted to ask if any of you know did Dell have any input in the design of the M17x..And would it be safe to say this is a XPSAlienware hybrid? Reason being, I've had a lot of XPS's in the past and i notice a lot of the desktop and the laptop influence in the design. Maybe its just me.

That is entirely incorrect, I do not know where you got that from.

Alienware is maintained as a separate entity; the M17x "Stealth" design was by Alienware in-house. Alienware has far better access to suppliers, finances, marketing research, and distribution methods now that they are a part of Dell.

Dell had influence in this design....
    no doubt about it \

I DO AGREE that AW astetically had all the choices and had most of the choices on the m17x but you cannot argue Dell had NO involvement in it ...

but on the internal layout they used alot of the m1730 layout. I know they are seperate chaz ;)

Are you maybe thinking about the old m17x?

Internal config of the XPS 1730 was completely different than the new M17x. Biggest difference being the XPS had it's GPUs side by side inside the chassis....I even believe they were on the same PCB.

As far as looks, really the only aesthetic similarities are the vents in the front of each.

I know for a fact the m17x had many revisions before the final product and Alienware had to sign off on the design before they can begin the production process.
Alienware design Dell's money and resources.
