Ever since I installed Win7 yesterday my computer hasnt been running as quickly as usual (m17x that I got last month). The CPU usage is always around 50% or more. Went into Task Manager and saw that Alienfusionservice.exe is hogging around 44% of my CPU at any given time. I forgot exactly what that one does in command center but is anybody else having this problem?

    All help is appreciated thanks

Command Center is buggy. Disable the whole thing from startup and change services to manual. Fusion is just not worth the computer performance it takes just to scan your face once every boot.

Thanks very much for this. I experienced the same problem as casper after a Windows 7 upgrade. All is back to normal now :D

    Update:
I registered for this forum, to save the people hastles of calling Alienware's tech support, staying on hold for a week, then getting someone on the phone who speaks poor english, to assist me..
So, completely uninstall Command Center, then, go to Dell's home page, scroll to the bottom to download drivers, choose your M17 from their list, then get the new Command center, plus all other drivers for Windows 7.
AlienFusionService.exe is a complete resource hog and there is an infinite loop in their software that will not release Cache and in the end, it consumes all of your onboard RAM and starts disk swap, so your computer runs ultra slow, at best.

While you're at it, get all of the drivers, including their new Bios, and whatever else. Win7 is brand new, so I am sure there are still issues with other things, yet to pop up. I also had a problem with OSD, but might as well get new video drivers while you're at it.

I don't know why Alienware doesn't put the drivers on their site also, but they should.
    Take care!

When you disable the Command Center and change services to manual how do you actually enable the system lighting? Could you walk us through the steps?

At desktop just double click Start>All Programs>Alienware>AlienFX Controller.

Set your lighting the way you want it, and then Right-Click on the AlienFX icon on the taskbar and pick "Exit." AlienFX will shut down but the lights you chose will still be on.

Next time you boot up the lights will still work and all. Only thing is that you have to re-do the double click on AlienFX Controller every time you want to change your lighting setup. A minor annoyance as I see it, since not many of us will be changing our lighting setup at every boot.

    Is that clearer?

War, which specific services do you recommend setting to manual? My M17x hasent arrived yet but im trying to learn as many troubleshotting answers here as possible to pre-empt any possible problems that might arise.

I have disabled that Fusion thing (I think it's the face recognition). I disabled the AlienFX at startup. I only turn it on when I want to change the lights, and then close it again. I do not have the touchpad Alienware provides because I think it sucks. I have a generic one that W7 installed and it is very responsive and smooth. Therefore I don't have Touch enabled either. Finally there is no service for the Power Options.

Here is BatBoy's original post on this (Which I followed):

Thanks for the info, I have never used Win7 so do I still do this through services.msc? Also want to be sure that these should be set to manual and not disable.

Set them to manual and disable from Startup. You can put Services.msc or just Sevices in W7.

I just registered today to say a thank you to you guys for the information on this thread.

I bought an M17x with Vista Ultimate. When the W7 upgrade arrived I installed it and then the problems began. Kept freezing after a couple of hours. So basically having to restart the laptop continuously.

I'd installed all the new drivers, BIOS and chipset but still the Physical Memory was increasing by 1% every minute or so until it reached 97% and froze. Alienware support tried to help where they could but always falling back on re-install everything, but I didn't want to because I felt the OS was fine and that it was something else causing this issue.

Last night I found a discussion talking about BIOS memory and also suggesting checking Resource Monitor. As I didn't understand BIOS memory I checked the Resource Monitor, only to find AlienServiceFusion.exe using 2.4GB. I then re-started and noticed it starting at around 60Mb, and increasing by about 20Mb per minute.

Approx 5 mins after logging on, at 2:32am it was using 180Mb, at 2:48am it was using 565Mb and at 3:32am it was using 1,645Mb. I took a screenprint of each and during that time I found this thread, so I new I wasn't alone.

So today I spoke to Alienware support again and explained that I had found the problem. Again it was considered a software issue of which you get charged for sorting. Anyway, once I showed him the screenprints he was a little surprised and uninstalled Command Centre. Hopefully they can steer people to the correct advise from now on.

I haven't re-istalled the latest Command Centre because at the moment I'm just pleased I have a working laptop for the first time in a week :)

Thanks again, it's a shame I didn't find this thread a week earlier!

What is more a shame, is that they have yet to address this issue at Dell. Win7 has been out for 6 weeks, I hope they get a fix soon.
