I have an original Alienware 13. This model had an SSD option, which I didn't get when I bought the machine. The OEM SSD adapter takes two M.2 SSDs, and plugs into the same header on the motherboard as the hard drive cable. Is the adapter just SATA 6Gbps, or does it actually operate at M.2 speeds? At the very least, is it faster than a regular SATA SSD?

I currently have a SanDisk Ultra II 480GB installed. Thanks!

In that model the ssd adapter will oNLY work with 2 m.2 SATA drIves. It isn’t nvme compatible.

If it only works with m.2 SATA ssds, there would be no advantage in going with that option vs your 2.5" SATA SSD. In all reality, there isn't much to be gained going from SATA SSDs to NVMe SSDs outside of specific use cases.
