Hey guys I ordered an Alienware 14 model that was part of the SmartSelection on 27/12/13 and the webpage said it would be shipped out 28/12/13 to Canada, now it is 3/1/2013 and it is still in production. I've called and chatted daily and they keep saying blah blah, it will ship out within 24-48 hours or we will have your order expedited, but still nothing.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?
I feel a little ripped off, having settled for a less powerful configuration because I believed it would arrive sooner.

Hello KC. Congratulations on your new machine. Were they able to give you a reason for the delay?

This is not completely unusual. These are projected dates that are subject to change. It could happen faster or take longer. Sometimes the order status information is not accurate and the people you speak with by phone see the same information that you can see. I think this may have something to do with the people processing the orders not keeping the status updated.

As an example, I ordered my wife an XPS 15 for Christmas on 12/13/2013. It was supposed to be delivered on 12/20. It was later changed to 12/27. It was delivered on 12/23 even though my order status never changed from 12/27 being the estimated delivery date.

I remember back then, there was a 1-800 number that had a backdoor and gives you accurate ship dates, even when the status on the ordering page didn't update.

I tried that number, but it's just financial services in Canada :(
Also they were not able to give me an exact reason for the delay, just that in was in final stages of production and that they would "expedite" my order.
I hope it comes soon >< the anticipation is killing me!

As Mr. Fox said, those are rough estimates. They usually don't take that long unless there is a delay on a component. Best thing to do is to continue talking to them until you get a real reason.
