Does anyone have any info on what they are short on?
    Screens?
    Haswell cpus?
    Motherboards?

    I'm kind of curious.

What a nice positive comment from an expert like yourself. Let's hope the engineers at AW/Dell gets replaced by you because obviously their input and education is not good enough compared to your expertise. You have the eye for quality control and expert designing of things :D

Yet another useful post from dandan112988. Keep them coming. I'm sure Dell will read them and put Alienware out of your misery.

I have to agree since it's all new stock likely most stuff though intel will be churning out plenty of CPUs.

Every now and then they will throw in some free software. I am not surprised at this paper launch. Dell marketing said go and they were not ready.

Better to delay then to cause mass hysteria with a faulty part.

We are seeing systems shipped and delivered now. The hysteria is often misplaced.

Yeah, we know about customers that already received their unit. It is just a matter of patience.

Ive been waiting since the first of july, and their excuse is the 780m's are back ordered and I should have my machine by the end of August/beginning of September... (8 weeks ).

Mind you, my friend ordered the same thing and received it within 3 weeks. He placed his order after me. I also know 2 other people who have a AW 17 with 780, and are just living in the next province over, and they received them.

So, all the lies and bull they keep telling me is starting to me off royally.

Not sure why it took so long, but you should have had your system by now.

The back ordered parts excuse is actually accurate as of the past week or two. We can't even order them in the US, and estimated delivery dates have all been pushed to the end of Sept.

Because it is a giant conspiracy against you.....they know your waiting so they are delaying you as long as possible just to tick you off.....

Get a grip, they didn't anticipate the amount of orders that came in and unfortunately as with the case with almost any new product not just Alienware ( Remember when Nintendo launched the Wii....they couldn't keep them in stock the first 2 years) . They are probably waiting on the 780....also not Alienware's problem, Nvidia can't keep up with demand, so maybe you should point your anger at them. Your system ship time also has nothing to do with when you ordered it but more so when it goes into production. If his went into production first then of course he got his first, he could have had his payment processed faster etc etc.....

The amount of people that just need to get some patience is mind boggling...

I understand the sentiment of you reply (that the backorder of 780m's isn't personal) but I think Woodzstack deserves to be a bit angry about this.

A two month wait is unacceptable when, expecially given others have been recieving their orders placed early August. In his situation I would have cancelled my order.

That said the fulfillment process seems to be completely random. Some have placed orders in mid August and have had them fulfilled already - others (like Woodz) are still waiting after an early July order. The only pattern I have been able to find is that there is no pattern at all.

Woodzstack: Some on the forum have been able to have their orders tagged as Priority (not sure how? I'm assuming via a rep). It might help move your laptop up the queue.

I personally think it's all random. We simply don't have enough data to do an analysis as to why some are faster than others. I think some of the annoyance of some posters and some jokes tossed around is that this happens ALL THE TIME. :) It's not the end of the world and people making it out to be gets other people laughing at them. I thin I get a chuckle as well. I'm also in the same boat...There were also a rash of canceled ordered earlier due to some unavailable part (I thin it was a Dell Thank you card).

Mine's delayed till October. Ordered near end of July...Maybe it won't even come and get cancelled. I seem to not be too concerned...

they told me, mid august, like two weeks ago, that it was in the final stages of production... just missing the videocards, that something on the order, the part number - they told me (and told me they are not allowed to tell me this, derp) that it was the part number for the videocards...

I was told I'd get it before September, when the stock comes this coming week, like tomorrow or something....

but., Im not sure what I believe. Last year when it was the m18x-r2, I randomly got my laptop oneday delivered straight to my door... and then the status of the order was updated to shipped and delivered, the next day - straight from saying it was in production.

You can take some solace in the fact you are not alone - although your wait has been longer than most.

I'm quite new to the idea of custom-ordering a laptop, so the delay has surprised and disappointed me as well, but I guess it just highlights how fragile the stock-order-fulfilment process for bleeding edge parts actually is behind the scenes.

(I guess this is good news for nVidia shareholders though!).

Wow, I'm glad I bought the 765m. Ordered in mid-July, delivered 14 days later. I figured I'd rather save the money and upgrade next year to an Nvidia Maxwell card.

as every week starts, a small small amount of hope creeps into my system.. to usually be horribly extinguished as I'm let down again, and again, and...

I'd call them back and ask whats up. Usually it goes into processing rally quick. if its not by the 10th day it gets cancelled from what Ive seen about 15 times over the last 3 years.
