    Hi,

I bought an Alienware 17 R3 in November. Specs are i7-6700hq, GTX 970m, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD
Recently, while installing Ubuntu, the partitioning was destroyed by mistake. Dell technical support says there is no way I can get back to factory settings, but can use the recovery system image if someone has create it! Their recovery media is nothing more than Microsoft media creation tool.

So, if anyone with Alienware 17 R3 created a recovery image as soon as they got their laptop, I would be indebted if they could kindly share their recovery image though cloud or FTP site. I beg for your help. Please help a fellow AW owner :)

    Thank you
    Sagar

Clonezilla can be used for cloning - http://clonezilla.org/
    EaseUS - http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm

P.S. - Even if your system has been populated with a few software(i.e. isn't totally factory fresh), please do consider making a clone and helping me. I'm really desperate for it

P.S. - For anyone who has an AW 17 R3 with windows 10, please help me by creating a clone of your system using one of the cloning software giving me the image. Its a sincere request.

    Thank you

Why do you need/want the factory image?

I appreciate that it's something to fall back to, but why? It's just Windows 10 with the required software/drivers installed?

Could you not just create your own image after a fresh install?

He could do that and it should be as good or better than the original installation. A clean install would be the best approach and some Alienware customers do that (wipe out the original drive) as part of their normal setup process. That used to be a very common practice when almost all Alienware owners were very tech savvy people that felt they could do a better job of it than the OEM.

And, Dell will (or should) provide OS recovery/installation media for any OS that came preinstalled on his machine... but, not the original image. That could be why nobody has responded.

haha are you still after it? Dude - install a fresh windows 10 install from Microsoft, install dell drivers, stop spamming forums - move on with your life - everyone is telling you to do the same

the dell image isn't even being used by the techs

I was told by alienware support to scrap the outdated shipped dell image as it has problems and install windows 10..

why are you still looking for this image

    ???

Or, you can do a clean install of Windows 7 or 8.1 if you think Windows 10 sucks. (Personally, I think Windows 10 is super crappy... but some people actually like it.)

Yeah, it's also sad how it produces such horrible physics (CPU) performance as well. It's pathetic that Micro$loth missed the mark by so much with Windows 10. To call it a software abortion would be an understatement. The forced updates and severe lack of control over so many things, including configuration and appearance of the UI, is downright inexcusable. Everything about how it functions underscores the fact that their motivations in the design and roll-out of Windows 10 are self-centered and unethical.

Oh well, I expect someone could have backed up their SSD as soon as their laptop was shipped and hence, I thought they could share it with me. Why would asking for that be spamming forums or why does it make you think my life is halted at that stage? So, I deleted the stock settings and now, I want it back and looking for someone having it. (Though I have a vanilla installation of MS on my laptop now). What's so wrong in asking for it?

    Hi,

You can get the Factory Image (For Windows 10 at the moment) from the Drivers and Downloads area in Dell Support Website. Just look into the Operating System option
