Anyone here has experience in using 9800M (GTS/GT/GTX) in 1st gen m15x (with BIOS version X36) which can get the HDMI port working? As far as I know, without new BIOS version support from Alienware (of course they won't support it anymore), using 260/280M GT in 1st gen m15x can't get the HDMI port working.

    Thanks for your sharing! :)

did you have a question? I'm confused with this post, you're saying things that are true and I can confirm it to be true. I think the 9800m GT though is the optimal card for it.

As I did ask Alienware to get a replacement for my dead 8800M, they quoted me only 9800M GT. When I asked for 260M/280M, they denied to provide further support, i.e. BIOS update which can make the HDMI working for 260M/280M even though I can buy those card from 3rd party store.

HDMI output is quite crucial to me, I need to make sure which card can be fully functional for my m15x before I make the purchase.

    Thanks man!

you have 2 options for HDMI stepback and save money with a cooler running card like a 3870 (Alienware sells for less then 200) Or you could step up to the plate with a 9800m GT, like this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/Alienware-m15x-m17x-9800M-GT-512MB-MXM-Type-HE-RARE_W0QQitemZ200452930799QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item2eabecfcef

I personally have the 9800m but I switch out to the intel card often so that I don't burn it. CAn't wait for my m17x to get here though so I can start playing with that. But I'm never getting rid of my m15x though.
