To benefit from this monitor's capabilities, while plugged in to your laptop, you'll need an active displaypory to dual link DVI adapter and a mini displayport to displayport cable.

Yes, that's perfect, no need for a miniDP to DP adapter.

I understand, but using anything else besides an active adapter will limit you to 60Hz and unless you want 120hz for 3D, i don't recommend this monitor.

The one that vsg28 linked is perfect and a cleaner solution, you won't need anything else but be careful the one from your first link is not Dual link DVI, the second one is ok but you'll need a miniDP to DP cable too since the M18x has a miniDP.

No probs. Actually, the 2nd Ebuyer one you linked to IS actually a MiniDP - they seem to have made a boob on the main headline - if you look further down in the small print, it says MiniDP. Basically, it's the exact same thing as the Amazon one I linked...just a couple of quid cheaper on Amazon.

Actually, if you didn't mind white, Apple do the exact same bit of kit too, and it's cheaper again at only £49 (Apple part number MB571Z/A) : http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001IF252C/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550945869&ref=asc_df_B001IF252C For reference, see this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/607866-alienware-optx-2310-monitor-questions-2.html - page 2, post #15 & 17. It's the same Apple part number in the Amazon link and the quotes below suggest that it works without issue:

You can buy me a beer with some of the money you have saved LOL! ;)

Ben Q makes some of the best monitors IMO, and the price is always competitive.
