I don't know what changed but the installation of XP Pro finished just fine this time. However, I'm pretty much back at square one with the constant crashes and BSODs.

So far I have gotten these error messages:

After this message, I got the message from Windows Error Reporting that the Synaptics touchpad driver caused this error but I received a broken link from them.

This one appeared during the ATI Catalyst installation, I was able to install it on the second attempt. It appears to be unrelated to the installation.

This came up after my battle with Firefox over the period key. Internet explorer was being problematic so I downloaded Firefox instead and used that. After I restarted after installing Catalyst, I got a message saying that Catalyst required .NET framework. I opened firefox to go download it and everytime I entered a period, firefox crashed to desktop. After several attempts at working around this, I got the above BSOD.

My keyboard appears to randomly change configuration. While it was acting normally, I went to go download the new .net framework. I was told I needed the latest service pack. I went to go update when BAM:

Have you replaced any hardware yet, via memory or HD? You are only going to pull your hair out if you have not tried yet... I had a problem on my AW desktop and replaced the HD and bango, problem solved...
btw, it was giving multiple errors everytime it blue screened.

    Good Luck :)

I am going to bring it to a shop tomorrow and see what he can do with it. I don't want to spend a bunch of money for no reason so I will ask them first.

Not sure on the MB but if you have 2 memory modules have him remove 1 and re-start the machine, if the code remains swap out the module with the other one and restart. It may just be a bad ram card. That 0x0000001a leads me to believe it IS a bad memory card.

    Keep us updated. :)

I took out one of the modules and the computer appears to running fine. I'm going to give it a little stress test with some steam games and report back to you.

My video drivers are not up to date so I could not the Orange Box so I ran Half-Life instead, which had to run on software mode instead of off the video card. I played through a couple levels. It works fine. I have to apply XP SP2. After that, I should be able to update my video drivers. I'm almost there!

after updating all of the drivers and fixing a wireless network problem, the laptop is working just fine, if only a little bit slow, due to only one stick of RAM. I have brand new RAM coming in 3 business days. Thanks everyone for all of your help. You saved me untold dollars on firedog or one of them.

Glad you got it fixed, now you can actually enjoy it instead of dreaming of all those windows error codes dancing through your head when you try to get to sleep.

    Enjoy!

    One more little problem...

The computer will not turn on while its unplugged, but if I turn it on then unplug it, it works fine. I was hoping to actually bring this to class (and play hl2 during boring classes). Anyone heard of this problem before?

While the system is on/off and plugged in to the charging adapter, do you unplug it from the wall outlet 1st or the laptop? Believe most recommend it be removed from the laptop 1st then the wall outlet.

Also read some time back about the 766 having problems with turning on with battery power and getting a blue screen, something about a BIOS flash update, will check on that.

Also you may want to start a new thread on this issue ;)

I stand corrected, this is from AW tech...

I remove it from the notebook first than the wall. The plug doesn't really move from the outlet next to my desk.
