I received an Alienware 766 from a friend which was all screwed up (turned out to be a rootkit virus AND faulty RAM, see my other thread).

The laptop is working fine now with new RAM and comprehensive anti-virus protection. However... it will not turn on while unplugged. It will only turn on while plugged in, but will work fine if I unplug until I shut it down. Anybody heard of this problem?

How is your battery life? How long it last on a full charge? What is the behavior if you hibernated your machine and try to boot it back without AC adaptor.

It may or may not be any internal component which require more power than your battery can generate at this time. battery loose life by time and you might need a new battery.

Yes, just did it now. Also, the battery will run for a normal length of time. I'm sure exactly how long, but in the area of 2-3 hours.
