    Hi all. I have an Area 51 766, which, if I am correct, means that the following information applies to my computer as well

    -->Alienware Area 51 m5500 - Uniwill 259EN3 <--

    I need to get a pcmcia card for this. I was told by some almost-no-nothing at alienware when i called today that most newer pcmcia cards won't work for it. So I should get an older one.

    My question to you is , keeping in mind that I'd like both windows and ubuntu linux on the computer,

    which pcmcia card should I get? Which ones will work, and which should I get?

    Thanks, Bowie101

    I don't know what an express card is.

    This computer now has Windows Vista on it. (just installed.) It used to have Ubuntu on it, and an old PCMCIA card, although I don't know which one, but it was at the time it was gotten years ago, used. Since then, however, I've moved and the computer went into the shop for a new motherboard it turns out it didn't need. (....we don't think..)

    At Microcenter yesterday, I got a Trendnet TEW-421 PCMCIA card, with a "Windows Vista Certified" seal on the cover. I install the drivers, put the card in, nothing. The devise manager said it says the drivers aren't installed. This is after installing and uninstalling and installing again, using both the drivers online and the drivers that came with the CD, and each time, it would say that the process had finished successfully. (meanwhile the devise manager message always says the same thing.)

    I got a type 2 PCMCIA card, b/c I figure that this machine won't recognize a type 3.

    So, no go in Vista. Heck I didn't even want Vista. I wanted XP and Ubuntu, but XP kept giving us all errors during the install.

    Any more suggestions as to what might work? Someone have a similar setup?
