Anyone think it's worth it to upgrade to SSD from ebay or Alienware? And yes price is a real problem. Any advice if I should throw away $600-$1000 on SSD to boost my M9750? Who has one and is happy with it? Let me know!

Hey man, I do not currently have a SSD. However, it is not worth the money in any way. The M9750 is a big notebook that will not benefit from the SSD in many ways that would warrant the extra $600. My advice is to just plop down around $300 for the new 500GB hard drive that is coming out soon and just get around 8x more space :)

SSD's are too new anyways. Just wait until the prices come down a lot. It is like USB sticks, they used to be priced like crazy. Now you can pick one up for around $2 if you know where to look. Wait another year or 2 before you pick up a SSD if you can wait that long. Prices should come down a lot.

    Hi AlienContact,
Although A SSD drive sounds like a good idea, it is a relatively new technology. They did do a comparison a while back, and they found that it wasn't much of an improvement. It does speed up your boot time, but other than that, it's actually comprable to a normal drive during normal use. Also, they have recently discovered that the drives are failing prematurely.
I'm not sure if you're familiar with flash technology, but there's only so many flashes a device can take before it fails. Eventually, all usb keys (also called flash drives, portable hard drives, jump drives), quit saving as a result of too many flashes. A SSD drive is basically a giant usb key. It only makes sense that depending on your use, there's a million flashes going on at once. If you're an extreme user like me, that drive isn't going to last very long.
I would have to agree with Stone and go with a bigger normal drive.

    Hope this helps,
    Gabe

I have all the ssd info you need below. I hope it helps. Also, the ssd you would be looking (Samsung SATA II) at most likely will be the subject of my review here at NBR posted sometime this weekend.

I will also leave you with my response from a similar thread:
