    Hi guys,

I had have send back my Acer Predator Triton 900 because of gpu defect after two days of using.
I received back my money and i will get AW Area 51-M today.

I was so suprised about 4K panel in Acer and i would like to ask you if is some possibility to change FullHD display in Alienware for any 4K?

    Has somebody experience?

I know it is just 60Hz but i love it.
I played RDR2 in 4K and awsome experience.

Much more better then on any 144Hz FullHD.

    Thank you

Not possible yet, the panel does not exist yet as far as I am aware.

There is a 4k thin bezel option on the Razer's so maybe Alienware will get it soon but there have been no announcements as far as I am aware.

If you really want 4k you will need to look into an external display option. Even once it does become available ( If ), it's unknown if these ones would be upgradable to the 4k panel. The panel is not easy to remove from what we have seen. You might be stuck trying to replace the whole lid and panel assembly in one piece. Someone on Reddit did get it the LCD out of the lid of their wrecked a51m, but it wasn't exactly easy.

There was supposed to be a 4K panel for the Area-51m. I am guessing we might see it during CES 2020.

Yo a heads up. They are selling RTX 2080 kit which was around $1300 and now dropped down to $1000.(Which is very tempting) This was the started around Dec 1st. This is a hint to me that they might release an "r2" or new 4k display option along with a super RTX 2080 which has been spotted for Mobile.

People have been waiting for ages including me when I had the 51m. It has passed ces 2020, I have a feeling they have scrapped that idea and will release a 51m r2 instead which comes with the option.

Dell has a track record of saying things and not delivering on them, isn’t that right @Mr. Fox @Papusan

AW Umar Khan has already confirmed no 9900KS support for Worlds most upgradable Gaming laptop. I expect same will happen for 2666/XMP support. And display options is still in the blue.

LMAO. The worlds most upgradable gaming laptop. To think I was still saving up to get this laptop this summer! What a joke. I am glad I didn’t buy it a jumped on the hype as hearing there is no support for the next gen 9900KS is laughable! All that hype and then this news! I bet the the 3000 series cards won’t be supported either!

AUO B173ZAN03.3 and AUO B173ZAN03.1 both will support AW Area 51m. The difference between 2 is one 4K 60hz and other one is 4K 120hz. Now its not very easy to disassembly the display, but if you know what you are doing its not that hard. Also if you have AW Area 51m with 1080p 60hz then you are out of luck because that particular model use 30pin connector for display. You need 40 pin display cable to upgrade any of these 4K displays (AW Area 51m with 144hz comes with 40 pin display cable). you can buy 40pin display cable from here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33002778249.html

I can confirm that this cable works perfectly. Personally i am waiting for AUO B173ZAN03.3 its not very easy to find this model just yet because its just came out. if anyone have any info about where can i find it let me know. Also just announced AUO mini led 17.3 display with local dimming zone will probably also support this laptop. but i cant confirm that yet because its not out yet and AUO is not willing to give any information about this model yet.

Yep and you’ve got two pull tabs hidden below the screen, they are like the pull tabs found in iPhones underneath the batteries, just pull them gently and they come out, then you can use double sided tape to stick the new panel on...
Lid is solid, just make sure you don’t loose the lense on the Tobii eye tracker camera otherwise it will not work again!!
