    Hi all,
I am a newcomer to this forum and am in a bit of a quandary.

I have just received (still unpacked in box) an Area 51 laptop - core i7 - 9700 and RTX 2080, 32 MB RAM, 144hz G-synch screen. I received approx 15% discount through one of Dells offers. Having just heard about the updated Area 51 about to be released (10th Gen i7, RTX 2080 - Super) I am now unsure as to whether I should return the R1 for a refund (Dell have advised that I can do this) and order the updated laptop as soon as it is available - I expect I would need to pay at least 15% extra, probably more. What do people think/advise? The new version has a 4K screen option (at no doubt significant additional cost - only 60hz refresh though) - what do people think about 4K gaming - worth it or better to stay 1080 with a higher refresh rate screen?

Please let me know what you think!

Depends on what you really want. Your going to be able to swap the gpu and we already have 4k 120hz screen figured out. 10th gen really is just some trickry over 9th gen but it's really the same cpu

    Hi,
New to this forum, I signed in because I am a bit in this case too : )
I was about to order an area-51 when I read that a R2 was about to come !
Being newbie to Dell too (my last dell laptop was about 20 years ago !), do you think when the R2 is released, it will still be possible to order a R1 ? Or that a R2 with the same specs than the R1 I spotted would be approx. at the same price ? Do Dell make discounts on the remainings R1 before releasing the R2 ?
At this time, I don't quite know what to do !

You might be able to snag a R1 still for a great price before the R2 takes it place, if you want to save 600-700$ and you like the keyboard of the R1 over the upcoming R2's chiclet keyboard I would go for R1. Also the R1 is a well tested device, any issue that might come up as you tweak your machine to your liking.

Also, Plundervolt has been effecting all 10th generation processors limiting ones ability to undervolt. For me, as a gamer, undervolting is crucial part of my thermal management. If someone knows more about this with the upcoming R2 and how Plundervolt will be effecting it, please chime in.
