    Currently I have 16gb of ddr4 2933mhz.

On the Dell site when I ordered, you could choose up to 64gb if 2933 or 32gb of 3200.

I'm no RAM expert, so is that the maximum of each? The max RAM is 64gb so instead of 32gb of 3200 could I go 64gb of 3200 with XMP?

The best RAM upgrade in your situation is 2x16GB or 2x32GB HyperX Impact 2933. By all accounts, you won't be able to get 3200 memory to work if you ordered 2933 initially.

Why couldn't I get it to work? XMP is triggered in the BIOS. Nothing special is different based on the hardware that comes with the Area-51M R2. Am I missing something?

You can try but users reported it doesn't work. Probably memory frequency is locked for the motherboard type associated with the memory type you purchased. Sounds crazy, right? Who would do that? Search the user's lounge if you want to double check.

Haha, I don't put anything past Dell after the soldered RAM debacle. Well that's interesting. If I knew that, I would have ordered the 3200mhz RAM. Oh well.

    Appreciate your help as always.

In HWInfo64, under Motherboard -> SMBIOS DMI -> Mainboard, what does it say for Mainboard Version (A00) and Serial Number. The serial number seems to be in a format of .<servicetag>.CNCMK00093004E, of which I believe the CNCMK part is the Dell part number. Just curious if yours is different. It may mean that the board is a new revision and may have better ram compatibility.

Screenshot_20210226-152320_Gallery.jpg Check this out though. States 3200mhz. And under Physical Memory Array it says memory capacity 32gb. Wouldn't that indicate I received the 3200 version or am I wishful thinking?

The System Summary window of HWInfo is cutoff - what does it say in the memory section, bottom right quadrant?

Here is the screen. Also, having some slow timespy CPU scores of 9000 when it should be 13 or 14k. Can you tell by this other screenshot if the processor is correct? It seems low in speed. Screenshot_20210226-180323_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210226-180319_Gallery.jpg

That's messed up - you have 3200 modules but they are only running at 2933, so it looks like this 2933 motherboard nonsense is real.
As for why you CPU underperforms, I can't tell. Are you sure there is no thermal throttling?

I wouldn't think so, it reads in the high 80s or low 90s at the highest. However, if I undervolt it, it gets a bit faster, but not nearly close to what it should be.

XMP is disabled in the bios, so maybe enabling it would allow the 3200, not sure.

Well, can you not enable XMP in BIOS?
    What's your Cinebench 20 score?

I bought the 2933 ram but they shipped it with samsung 3200 modules. They still only run at 2933 with no option to enable XMP.

You are correct. The census here is they use different motherboards for the ram to limit it.

Using the 1.6.0 bios and Intel XTU 6.5.2.40 try applying a custom profile using the primary timings from the XMP/JEDEC 3200mhz profile. It should be able to train successfully and boot.

XTU modifies the hidden bios options so the settings will remain applied across bootups even if uninstalled.

I've never been able to install XTU without breaking AWCC. Does yours still work? I need the fan control more than anything else.

I don't have AWCC as the 10700k+RX5700M runs fine in balanced mode all the time. In theory you can uninstall AWCC, install XTU, make memory profile changes, uninstall XTU, re-install AWCC.

hi guys, does anyone know if there are any 64GB so-dimm ddr4 sticks available or if there is any company that plans to release such memory sticks? As I installed 128GB ram on my r1 with the 4x memory slots despite officially only 64GB was supported maybe the same can be done on the R2. I'm thinking upgrading to the R2 as my warranty is about to expire and this machine is a ticking bomb but I really need the 128GB ram for the kind of work I do.

There are 64GB SODIMMs. Really shame on Dell for dropping the 2 RAM slots, although you probably knew that when you paid them for your R2.

Just to add info to the thread. I believe I read somewhere that the 10700 non k processor only supports up to 2933mhz. The 10700k and above Ks support 3200. If I go to hwinfo it says I have 2 8gb 3200mhz ram sticks. When I go to task manager/performance it says my ram is operating at 2933mhz. I recently purchased a 11700k and plan to install it when it comes in next week. Hopefully when I install this processor it let's my ram operate at 3200mhz. I'll be back to post my findings.

Can't say that I was. When I I stalled my 10700k it opened up the xmp options for me. Apparently even though my ram was labeled 3200k something must have been disabled via hardware in those sticks. I'd imagine if I bought the Dell specific 3200k capable sticks it would operate at that speed. I ended up getting some kingstons and enabling xmp for 2933. My gpi score increased by 1000pts in 3dmark tests after enabling xmp, as well as my cpu score by 5-600 points. I don't believe at 2933 with xmp enabled there is a bottle neck anymore anyways.
