Anything with Alienware on CES nxt week? M14x R3 redesigned to dual cooling? M17x R5? Etc...

In conjunction with this introduction, Alienware and D-Link Systems, Inc. will be demonstrating StreamBoost routers based on Qualcomm VIVE™ 802.11ac technology for Gigabit-class Wi-Fi at International CES. StreamBoost routers will be available to consumers this spring at e-commerce and retail outlets in North America, Europe and Asia.
ONLY THING I COULD FIND.. -
Reading more on the streamboost thing, seems pretty neat to me... but reading brings up a thought. I quote from toms hardware
"Alienware and D-Link Systems, Inc. will be demonstrating StreamBoost routers based on Qualcomm VIVE 802.11ac technology for Gigabit-class Wi-Fi at CES 2013. Qualcomm said it will also be showcasing its own VIVE 802.11ac router products during the show"
So does anyone take this as maybe alienware is making its own router?
Mainly the "routers based on" part that alienware and dlink are showing. Then qualcomm is showing its own router, listed by name.
Qualcomm StreamBoost Will Control, Optimize Wi-Fi Networks
Guess we shall find out tomorrow. -

Doubt Alienware will demo anything huge as there isn't a significant hardware release coming till around June or so. (haswell release). That Networking deal looks pretty cool though.

Did anyone else catch Qualcomms insane opening Keynote? Holy cow, I haven't seen insanity like that... in... ever. Terrible skit at the beginning, the CEO came out and started blabbering about the next generation being called Generation M (born mobile), then out of no where Steve freaking Balmer ran across the stage looking like Uncle Fester from the Adams Family, and started yacking about Windows 8. Then after Qualcomms CEO talked about their new snap dragon processor he had director Guillermo del Toro come up on stage to demonstrate how it could be used in filmmaking, and after a clip from the upcoming Pacific Rim movie, del Toro decided the most appropriate thing to show was an incredibly gory and graphic scene from Blade II.
Qualcomms CEO then went on some insane rambling about the internet being "The Internet of Things".
If you think things were insane at that point, you have no idea what was coming next.
Big bird BIG BIRD showed up and started talking with him and another guy dressed in what can only be described as big bird skin.
The cognitive dissonance reached an all new high when Big Bird was followed by archbishop Desmond Tutu on the big screen. He was praising Qualcomm's involvement in world health initiatives.
Actress Alice Eve then came on stage next and played a trailer for the new star trek movie, and then had an awkward and scripted conversation with Qualcomms CEO.
Finally an electric Rolls Royce then pulled up on stage and showed off qualcomms wireless car charging. And then the band Maroon 5 cam onstage and played a set. Unfortunately people watching the even on the live stream got screwed because CES didn't get the broadcasting rights to the music, so people watching at home got to watch a muted performance before the stream was simply cut out of nowhere.
Good God...

what about this qoute from several different sources "Lenovo has a new coffee table sized computer coming out and Alienware has a monstrous new hardcore gaming rig. Clearly cross-compatibility and PC gaming is the hot area for growth this year. For sure this new equipment will cost a pretty penny but whether they will be released any time near their estimated release date is anyone’s guess."
what is it? I cant find it any where and all ive seen is these stupid qoutes about this Monster of a gaming rig being released.. -
Any news on GTX680MX being offered in notebooks?

LOL. biggest tech event of the year, and Starbucks gets better WiFi.
-
I'll pass on the puny kids toys, LOL. The Alienware reputation is founded upon excess and computing brutality, and I would hate to see them move away from it. I'd still love to see them release a liquid-cooled dual GPU laptop. Maybe something that cools with air or water, with quick-disconnect fittings to attach coolant lines and a sealed modular external cooler/pump/radiator unit that is portable.

i was too into reading SSDs and storage stuff didn't notice the rumors =/

Is that an Alienware-built prototype for the Steam Box?
Exclusive interview: Valve's Gabe Newell on Steam Box, biometrics, and the future of gaming | The Verge -
-
Yeah, I think valve just use alienware x51s
-
Steam is saying they want other companies to make "steam boxes" as well, and will be labeled as so as long as they meet several criteria. Its likely the X51 is already in that circle. This will allow valve to make their own version, and for other companies to make linux or windows based versions with different added features and designs and the free market will decide which ones are the best.

and if they do...sign me up too!
-
There was no actual steambox shown there, they had the x51, and a Xi3 piston computer.
-

AFAIK the steam box is more of a cube with all the chips facing inwards and a central fan blowing air through it.
-
Hey everybody, guess who nailed it!
Alienware router

Yeah, this CES has been pretty dry, we a still a bit too far away from releases just yet for dramatic reveals.

Nice router - I just wish that Qualcomm would get their fingers outta their butts and fix the drivers for the Killer 1103n in Win 8.......no point in having an all singing, all dancing router if the WiFi card is a bag of poop because of driver support.....

we all know that haswell chips are floating around and that manufacture get them long before we ever see them.. so I believe they have them now..
guess we have to wait and see..
here is what intel said..and based off of this i dont think the bigger gaming laptops will see haswell..but rather the low voltage version of ivy bridge..
Mobile, low-power processors focus of Intel event
Intel has demonstrated its fourth generation of Core processors at the company's CES press event. The demonstration also gave the chip maker a chance to demonstrate a new quad-core 22nm Atom System-on-Chip processor it calls "Bay Trail," as well as low-powered versions of existing architectures and processors aimed towards developing nations.
The fourth-generation chips, codenamed "Haswell" and formally announced in September, uses the same 22nm process that the third generation Ivy Bridge chips to create the processors. The Haswell chips will operate using as little as 10-watts of power, and was demonstrated on-stage in the form of an Ultrabook with a 13-hour battery life and a new detachable-keyboard reference design codenamed "North Cape." Intel will be promoting touch-enabled Ultrabooks with its processors in the future, with devices starting from $600 for standard Ultrabooks and $800 for tablets that can convert into a tablet by removing the keyboard.
A new, lower-power version of Ivy Bridge will also be put onto the market, which will allow the existing 3rd generation of Intel Core processor to operate using as low as 7 watts of power. The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoha 11S Ultrabook and an unannounced Ultrabook detachable from Acer will be the first to get this low-powered processor, and should be on the market by the spring.
Mobile computing seemed to be a major focus for Intel, leading the company to detail its Bay Trail Atom Micro architecture that it will push out by the end of 2013. The quad-core 22nm SoC will apparently be Intel's most powerful Atom processor to date, and will offer double the computing performance of current tablet processors, and a higher level of on-chip security.
Another Atom-based platform called "Lexington" is also being created, aimed at the low-power smartphone and tablet market. It is said to be able to reach a speed of 1.2GHz and will be able to perform hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding of 1080p video. Support for two cameras is underlined by it's burst mode that will capture seven 5-megapixel images in less than a second. The inclusion of an Intel HSPA+ modem with dual-sim and dual-standby capability is hoped to be attractive to phone manufacturers, especially those interested in producing low-cost devices. -
I remember when the M11x was shown at CES. Such a let-down this year. NO new systems? I was really hoping for an 12.1" IPS display in an M11x chassis and mSATA SSD + SATA HDD option... an "M12x" if you will.

Wait till jun dude, I'm sure we shall see some new toys then with the release of haswell and hopefully the Nvidia 780m.
