i just answered it on your original post:
thermal paste.
too much contact between the gpu and the dissipator..
they will replace either the paste, or the whole Mobo. -
Does anyone know if Alienware will send me the replacement motherboard to install myself or will I have to send them my pc?
-

They will do it.

Tops time taken: aprox 30 mins for them to rplace it. they'll call you and tell u when they can go, etc..
-
Aww, I hate sending my pc to them 10days without a laptop is never pleasant.

Lolz, you dont have to send it, they can send a technician to do it at your house
they did so with my XPS, and I live in Honduras, imagine that! -
Alienware usually requires you to send them the laptop unless its something like a videocard install then they just send you the card.

Well... I think its worth it to have your system running at optimum conditions.
Or you can just open it up, take the heatsink/fan off, clean thermal paste residue, apply new thermal paste, reseat the heatsink/fan, and it might work.
But, you may void warranty.
Besides 104C is pretty dangerous and can cause more damage to your mobo... -
No I will defiantly call them as soon as possible.

Kk, good luck with it mgeraci2007, hope you get your pc running optimum condition, the way it should!
-
Just so that everyone knows...I called alienware, and I am shipping the laptop to them tomorrow probably for a full mobo replacement. I love my warranty but I hate being without my laptop for 2 weeks!
-
good luck man.
-
Yeah, good luck.

AW will make you send back your computer for a mobo problem however dell with come to your house (I sent my M9750 out and my sister had her E1420 dissected at our house). -
Your alien has been in their shop for 3 months?
-
They have sent me 2GPUs and I have sent it back three times (now I am awaiting a new system). Haven't had the system working since July 14th and now it is November 3rd. It is coming up on 4 months soon 0_0.

Dont listen to people tell you to do it yourself. You will VOID your warranty.
Just send it back to them as you already know buying Alienware comes with sending your laptop out if something goes wrong. -
+1 (10char).
-
Maybe I'm expecting too much -
Lol on the piece of **** desktop at Cline library at school. Just popping in to say hi and that I sent my laptop out on monday. Alienware has sent me a GPU fan to replace myself as well as replacing the videocard by myself. it does not void the warranty if you are working with an Alienware tech or using their online guide.
-
Wait a minute, you sent your laptop out, and then they sent you a GPU fan? How does it solve the problem when you don't have you laptop?
-
I noticed some stuttering today whilst playing EQ2/Warhammer and after seeing this thread tried HWmonitor... 110 degree's C... ack >.< looks like its off to AW AGAIN with this thing. Ever get the feeling you were dealt a lemon with this lappy? i know i do.
-
No lol in the past they sent me the fan. I am glad that I can help ayeizajedi. AW said I should have my laptop back soon!
-
I spoke with AW and they asked me to open the laptop up and look at the graphics card for any signs of "issues", etc. I'll do that later tonight when i get home from work.
-
Good luck.
