Would you like the next Alienware laptop revisions to have matte (non-glossy) screen options?

If it were an option for the same exact price as glossy, then yes, otherwise no. I'm personally not willing to spend extra for a matte screen. I'd rather spend that money on an external monitor which will most likely be better than the laptop screen either way. With that being said, I would still prefer the glossy screen over the matte screen. Alienware laptops have great screens, probably the best ones available for laptops, period. A higher resolution, and 120Hz option would be very nice to see for the M18x.

I would think a matte screen (non-IPS) would be the same or cheaper. Underneath most glossy screens are matte screens. :)

Hell yes, 1440p matte IPS option please. I'd pay up to $400 for it.

I'd certainly relish the option of a matte display. I personally can't stand glossy screens....that was my only "con" of the M18x - fortunately for me, I don't hardly ever use the internal as I can bask in the glory of 2560x1600 Matte IPS beauty via my U3011. The option to choose would be brilliant.....listen up Dell, your customers WANT the option and an IPS panel would be even better.....

I hope Dell is listening too! I wouldn't mind seeing a 16:10 screen either! I've had two U3011s. Great monitor. I downgraded to two 24" U2410 IPS screens. :)

My M17x R2 sits inside all day, so TBH glossy isn't too bad, makes the RGBLED panel really shine. Now I kinda wish my M11x was matte as it is always on the go. Perhaps Alienware can offer a matte finish for even a small amount would be great.

If AW doesn't hear the cries for matte options they must be deaf, its basically the most asked for new feature on their laptops atm. If there isn't an option for it on the next generation I will have lost a lot of faith in the company.

Certainly I agree on the smaller more portable devices like the M11X.

So any idea if they will release a screen with higher resolution than 1080p? Sorry, I don't visit this side of the forum very often.

I'm glad to see the poll is active. As for a regular (non-IPS) matte screen, it should not cost more than a glossy. It should be equal (or cheaper) as most glossy screens are matte with glass on top of it. Now the IPS matte screen will cost more, but you're getting a premium screen with amazing colors and viewing angles. That screen option would probably be around a $400 upgrade.

I hope a Dell/ALienware rep can comment here.

As I stated numerous times, a higher gamut anti-glare screen would be more than welcome. Speaking of anti-glare, over the past 2 years I've come to appreciated semi-glossy panels that come with ~75% glare reduction while keeping the crispy image - the best combination IMHO. All that Dell has to do is offer the option that comes without the E2E glass cover. I removed mine and never been happier with my screen. The only thing I'd wish for is extra gamut.

As for higher res, if it's an IPS technology with double scaling like Retina panels - sounds ok, But I'd only go for it if it doesn't lose quality at lower res like 1080/1200p. I really don't feel comfortable staring at uber res panels for long periods of time.

It's in my sig - M18xR1. I removed the Edge-2-Edge glass cover from it using a thin stainless steel ruler and patience, cut the glue that holds the glass, removed it, made a custom bezel. Let me look for pics...

That's how it looked without any bezel :)

Here you can trace the progress

But let me make a new pic to show you the final result...

    Here you go:

If Dell did cede to pressure for Matte screens, I'd hope they'd allow retrofitting the M15x with one. Even for a reasonable cost in Warranty, I'd go for it. It's not really a problem for me when I'm on the desktop, or on the internet, but when things go black, all I ever see is my face and the reflection of the keyboard lights - a little annoying.

If they made the edge-to-edge cover in a non-reflective material, I would like that and might pay a little extra for the more expensive material. But, for the most part, I really prefer glossy displays. In addition to that, having no bezel to collect crap around the edge of the screen is awesome. I hate the way a matte screen looks when turned off. They can make a nearly new machine look very tired and worn. The porous surface is harder to clean as well, and shows smudges as bad or worse than a glossy screen. I would not mind having a higher resolution screen with the edge-to-edge cover equal to or better than what we have in the M17x R2 1200p RGB LED, but I don't dislike the screen on my M18x at all.

I would like them to maybe work on a much thinner bezel and have a "display mate" option, the same size and panel that could be used for multi monitor purposes.

Bump for IPS non-glossy screens without reflections!
