    Not much to say except that the custom Alienware login background was there and now the default windows 7 background is.

    Any idea how to get it back?

    Never mind... got it... when windows did an update it changed a registry value.

    Solution:

    "First, a check is made to determine if the customization functionality is enabled or not. More precisely, a DWORD value named OEMBackground in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background key is checked. Its data, of Boolean type, defines whether or not this behavior is turned on, i.e. 1 for enabled, 0 for disabled. This value may not exist by default, depending on your system."

    Just an additional info, sometimes you won't find the OEMBackground there. All you need to do is to create a new key using "DWORD" and rename it to "OEMBackground"

    Thanks guys.

    Only problem I see now is that every time I change the aero to windows 7, the back long on back ground converts back. Any solution for this?

    Thanks.

    Having the same issue as Achilles, Anyway to switch windows themes without editing the registry for the Alienware log on image? It's kind of a pain...

    This should be the location of the background - use if you know how...

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background]
    "OEMBACKGROUND"=dword:00000001

    The background file should go here -> C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds\backgrounddefault.jpg

    Looks like we're going to post the Avatar images on support.dell.com in the very near future, so the only thing you'll have to install manually is the log in background screen...

    A permanent solution to the login Alienware background.
    Instead of changing:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background\OEMBackground

    Instead, Use the following Policy key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\UseOEMBackground

    Alternatively, just copy the following into a text file, rename the file with a .reg extension and double click it:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
    "UseOEMBackground"=dword:00000001

    I don't know if this has already been covered elsewhere but has anyone any idea how to change the background image at boot up? I'm sure most users will have noted that the default image has been squashed so the Alien head looks odd.
