was just at best buy (mall at millenia) saturday and again today (citrus park) narrowing down the decision (aka tire kicking - still, lol ;p) and can't believe that pricing at both best buy's is just $899 - way better than even purchasing directly from alienware?!?!

Yeah $100 better than dell. Loved I was able to play with it at BB before I bought. Actually seeing it in person pushed me over the edge.

Are they actually selling them yet or just showing them off?

Aparently only showing them. Available next week (4/11).

I don't think so. I can't see them wanting more than one SKU to stock. Besides just buy a 500GB yourself and replace the 250GB.

NewEgg has the X-25M in stock for $414 at the moment, would make a sweet addition.

That is a good point well I guess I will have to wait until the stock of this low 250gb hd gets sold out and Best Buy updates to better specs or something. However, Dell has had and does have two identical models with slightly different specs selling side by side. However, since they will be introducing the line I think they will only have the M11x with one specs sheet.

Oh I understand SKU to be a unique identifier for laptops so not sure about the more than one thing but get what you are trying to say I think.

Dont assume everyone wants to buy anything to upgrade anything in a computer when that something hasnt gone bad. Upgrading computers that way isnt my style, I want something the way I want it out of the box.

Because stock (each item or SKU) = shelf space. It costs money to ship, store, and manage each item. It's basic business economics. They're gonna pick the one at the best price point that will sell the most. If they can get significantly more sales from another version, they will stock that too. But adding a 500GB hard drive will hardly drive sales.

If there were more configurable options other than CPU, RAM, and hard drive size they might (like optical drive (BD or DVD) and screen resolution). I'm more surprised they wouldn't offer a base model though (SU4100, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD).

Chances are they will most likely stick with this model until the refresh. Maybe you'll get lucky with a larger hard drive, but I doubt it. If you want it configured differently your options will be change it yourself or configure it from Dell.

Ok yeah remember your post, you saying you are surprized that they wouldnt offer a base model tells me you dont really know about Best Buy.

ROFL@ you telling me about economics.

Right adding a 500gb hard drive and still selling the laptop at a good price wont drive sales in fact its only cheap items with mediocre specs sells.

The only reason your argument has bearing would be to say they wouldnt offer two differently speced M11x laptops at the same time. If Best Buy decides to stock the 15" and 17" Alienwares as well im sure one of them will have a 500gb hd.

Oh yeah I bought my XPS M1330 at Best Buy in 2008 for $899 which at the time was a great price for a highly speced laptop with a large HD size of 320gb.

Nope my option is waiting on Best Buy to stock it just the way I like it, so far so good which is why every laptop I have owned and sold has come from Best Buy.

Ok, whatever, I'm not here to argue, don't get so defensive. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Your choice to wait. At the moment, and most likely down the road, they won't offer an M11x with 500GB hard drive is all I'm saying.

If they offer an M15x or M17x it may and most likely will come with a 500GB hard drive, but it's not the same model as the M11x.
