    Hello,

I just purchased a Alienware M15X and waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I have Windows 7 Ultimate coming on the machine.

Do these machines come with the recovery DVDs to install from scratch or is this something else I need to purchase?

The dell rep said they come with the Recovery DVD + Drivers DVD.

    Thanks
    Dave Spriet

The dell rep told you the truth. I had vista installed on mine and it came with a recovery DVD but I also had a Win7 upgrade disc which can be used as a full install/recovery. There is also a recovery parition set up on your hard drive and something called alien respawn to recover you files. Check out the nice leatherbound manual they send you with the laptop for info about alien respawn.

Did you ever get alien respawn to work? I did a clean install using the included Windows 7 dvd and left the recovery partition, but apparently this screws up the master boot record setup at the factory.

When you did the clean install of windows 7 dvd and you left the recovery partition did you have issues loading windows? If so is the solution to remove the recovery partition if you want to do a clean install using the windows 7 dvds?

    Was that the solution?

No not at all. I just couldn't press f10 to load the alien respawn and set back to factory specs. I can tell you it ran a lot better with a clean install. Maybe 50 to 60 processes vs. almost 90. If you have any other questions please feel free to PM me.
