I think that's your huckleberry, man...I'm pretty sure the clevo's and the m15x use the same slot style...

Well, wait a second. Doesn't Clevo/Sager user proprietary cards? I am not sure this will work.

my only experience wth a clevo was an aurora m7700....it had the same style mxm slot as the aurora m9700 and m9750...the old Dell XPS had a geforce go 7950gtx that had a different slot than the AW though...I saw a picture of the m8800 in the m15x and it appears to be the same basic style (although the older slots are slightly smaller) as the older alienware's (including the m7700 aka Clevo D900K)...but I could be wrong

Sure no problem with the card, even if you do experience some anomalies you can get the Video Card BIOS from any of the forum member here and flash it to you acquisition. :)

    there's a catch.

The MXM III Slot style in the m15x should fit any MXM III cards (though, I've heard around that the slot on the m15x might be MXM HE, but MXM III cards are compatible with MXM HE Slots), so what's left is cooling and hardware compatibility.

make no mistake this is an at-your-own-risk deal.

so the slots should fit, and the 8800M GTX should be supported by the bios (since there are units with the card already out there), so the last problem is: cooling.

Alienware used different coolers for the 8600M GT/8700M GT and the 8800M GTX/9800M GT. two different coolers. moving from a 8700M GT to an 8800M GTX, you'd need the other cooler to adequately cool the card, otherwise risk overheating. so you'd probably have to contact Alienware and try to get them to send you out a cooler, which could be upwards of 50-100 dollars.

you could try the existing cooler, but again, at your own risk, the card will probably run hot if you do.

then again, even investing the extra in the cooler, there's no guarantee that the card will work at all anyways. especially if the mfr that released it did something to it that prevents it from being used in any system other than the one it was intended to work on. (doubtful, but still possible)...

    In theory, it's sound though.

the M15x has a MXM Type III slot with HE tab.

there is NO such thing as MXM Type HE..... it simply never existed.

    Officially through Nvidia, there are:
    - MXM Type I
    - MXM Type II
    - MXM Type III
    - MXM Type III with HE tab
    - MXM Type IV (standard with HE tab)

As for the compatibility of the videocard module of the AVAdirect's Clevo model to use in the Quanta-based m15x....

You need to ask AVAdirect for a physical picture of the 8800M GTX that they are selling... and compare it with a 8800M GTX that is found with a M15x.

if they look the same, then it would probably be okay... as long as you have the correct heatsink/fan mount... since AVAdirect will only provide the copper kit to fit the Clevo D901C.

if you're looking for the heatsink, i can sell you one. guaranteed to fit with m15x and 8800m-gtx (as long as the cards have the same layout). PM me if you're interested.
