Good morning everyone.
I m a bit desperate so hoping to find any help in here. i just bough Alienware m15x few days ago to be able to play Warhammer online on Laptop but so far its really terrible experience for me. Game is hardly running for me on lowest details, computer is crashing like every 30 minutes and I m not enjoying gaming really much. Already sent request for bios update so i hope it will help to stop crashing computer. But do anyone have idea what to do to be able to play game with better FPS? All advices welcomed.
My Laptop configuration:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
4GB memory
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
ST9120823ASG 120 Gb
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Thank you for any help.

what driver are you running on your gpu?
-
Where can i find which driver exactly is it please? I m lost a bit in Vista.

Video Adapter

Adapter RAM: 256MB
DriverVersion: 7.15.11.5655 -
I just mentioned this to someone in another thread so here ya go.
For the 8600, I'd recommend the 177.92 or .98 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. Uninstall your current graphics driver then download the driver then the modified .inf, extract the driver somewhere, drag and drop/overwrite the current .inf with the modded .inf, lastly run the setup. -
Going to try it, thank you.
-
Make sure it's not in stealth mode or using the internal gpu
-
Which version of DirectX do you recomend me to download and where can i get it please?
-
-
You can check if you're in stealth mode by looking at the touch screen controls section. If the stealth mode icon is lit up, you are in stealth mode.
To find out if you are using the integrated or the 8600. SImply right click on your desktop, if you can click/see Nvidia control panel, you are using the 8600. If it does not show up you are using the integrated card. -
-
I already uninstalled DirectX and Nvidia drivers, but cant install that new one because it tells me that hardware is different, but its probably because of that .inf file. Where do i have to put it than? And what about that DirectX please.
-
Oh noes i went sleep and hoped that there will be any respond before i wake up. :|
-
Don't uninstall the direct X drivers. Keep those. The only driver that you need to uninstall is the Nvidia driver.
-
I already installed sucesfuly that 177.98 drivers, but uninstalled direcx already because i did have some SDT version of DirecX and it told me that that version is about to run ot of some period, not sure exactly. SO what DirecX drivers i should download? And anyone got that updated Bios version to help with overheeting?
-
Go to microsoft.com and search for directx downloads. Not the SDK version.
-
Okies.
By the way what are these icons on Laptop for? First is Bluetooth, Wirelless, But dont know what means the ufo one and the one at the right. -
And another thing i would like to ask. I got 4Gb of Ramm and 1Gb of some kind of extra speed memory or I m not sure what it exactly mean but almost everything is showing me that i got just 3gb of Ramm, its like that extra speed one is divided and no longer working with other ramms? Sorry that im asking like noob, but I m actually noob
-
the 32bit operating system you have will only adress around 3Gb of your RAM.
out of interest, why did you buy such a high-end gaming laptop if you even call yourself a "noob"? -
So that 1gb more memory is just wasted or what?
Just tryed 3d Mark 2006 and it has just 3531 score, i think its not like its suppose to be? -
that's far too low. make sure you're neither in stealth mode, nor running on the IGP.
EDIT: also, update all necessary drivers. -
Which of the icons is stealth mode and where can i found setting of it? By the way than you for helping me I m really desperate.
-
I m trying to find DX10 at microsoft pages but no sucess there is just 9.0c everywhere.
-
the guage thingy on the far right of your touch control bar is the stealth mode control. press it, and a little icon should pop up on your screen, indicating if stealth mode is on or not.
as for the IGP, extend your system tray (bottom right corner) and check if there's a "i" in a blue box. if so, you're running the IGP. if so, press Fn+F7, and let your machine reboot. after that, you'll be running the dedicated GPU, which is much more powerful.
after you've done this, run 3dmark again. you should get a score between 9,000 and 10,000. -
That two icons most in right side are not working at all, just Bluetooth icon is working, not even wireless one....omg im doomed

Keep in mind that 9.0c applies to operating system versions prior to Vista. DX10 is Vista exclusive and this link should still update your DirectX 10 for Vista. -
-
Sorry, when i press it nothing happen.
-
-
The 8600GT gets you 3500 marks. The 8800GTX gets you ~9000 marks. Should have upgraded to the 8800GTX and upgraded the ram yourself at a later date imo. -
Its strange when i press volume i don't see that moving bar anymore, just a part of the window what was showing the change of volume.

There is just check Armandos Profile, Check all his posts and add him to your buddy list..
-
that's weird. even better, you can't PM Chaz for help
-
-
You can't send PM's if your a nub because they don't want spammers sending PM's to everyone.
Okay... Your computer is running 100% fine in terms of speed. Honestly, I don't want to sound like a huge dick but this is why AW has tech support so that they can walk users such as yourself through EVERY MINUSCULE detail on the phone. Give them a call and they'll probably tell you to send it back or update some drivers. I really don't feel like going through a step by step guide so just give them a call up and they'll assist you.
You have a slower spec'd M15x. Basically the M15x you have is the Dell XPS M1530 just with a larger case, a swappable bay, and more pricey. You also get the lights too if you like them. -
Is there any way to restore default setting for Laptop? I bet it isn't? To see if i didn't made any mess myself? But the problem with overheeting and crashing was until beginning.
-
How old are you by the way? -
I don't have permitions to do that. But thank you anyway.
I just checked few pages with tests of that 8600GT and there was nowhere like 3500 score. Some got 4500-5000 but no one got so low.
How can i get Bios fix to try to avoid that over heeting crashes? I already sent email to Alienware, but no response. -
trust me, you won't get any overheating with that weak setup you got yourself. i second the age question.
PS: which screen did you choose?
EDIT: what, you're not allowed to call AW? -
1. CALL ALIENWARE
2. HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE OVERHEATING? I'M 99% SURE YOU ARE NOT.
3. RESPAWN SHOWS ON BOOTUP YOU HAVE TO HIT F SOMETHING...
lol we may as well lock this thread if you aren't going to listen to us. -
you could also try the vista respawn dvd if you think you're up to it. which you're probably not, to be honest.
-
I m 24. And I m working with computers for some time already, just never before with Laptop and Vista. And it really suprised me that Laptop for this prize is working way more worst that computer i sold three month ago. -
Well many people on websites are complaining about overheeting and crashing and they seems to have similar crashes as me so thats why i think it could be because of it. And i seen few graphic cards which done errors like this and it was often because of heat, but I m going to look around for some utility to check out tempetarure of system. -
and how do you know that's because of overheating? from how i see it, that's a driver error. update to the newest drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, and get the X32 BIOS.
PS: you sure you're actually using the 8600m?
PPS: which screen do you have?
