yea man i dont want to brick the rig either, but I AM interested in swaping the cards. john was saying u had some performance gains by doing this? the only problem is i dont have any AS5 on hand and dont know where to get any.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
What kind of performance gains. from switching slave and master.
and i know it was pages back. but i dont care for the core i7 notebooks. will be intresting to have one. but as long as i get at least 60 (real min 50) fps on games at 1900*1200 and max settings. plus when they come out i'll get the qx9300 for super cheap
i can keep the Ocz. and as long as the 4870 are Mxm 3 i'm good with the 3870x2 until there come out. -
alright, so i'm gonna go to radioshack real quick to pick up some RS5.
-
Wonder if you know this
I have set my Facial Recognition which
only Works sometimes
& I have to swipe my Finger to log in
But can i turn these funtions Off & on latter if i want to ?
I wanted to set it as before just start my Comp

Please help
Do we need to update drivers
I have my m17 for a month now
alls running fine
All i have done is Update my Windows
& also update my ATI drivers & seems had to register it
I got Vista 64
Are there more updates we need to do besides the Windows update ?
Thank you -
hey... i didn't say he gained performance. i said to do it to test cards for heat...lol. to see if you still had the 10c plus degree temp range.
-
lol sorry john, ok anyways nonetheless i still want to switch them around to get to the bottom of this temp differences. i got the back opened and looking at the two gpus. one thing comes to mind: i dont have a proper station (esd mats, etc). should i risk esd'ing the crap out of my gpus?
-
just curious..anyone know where I can download some streaming flicks? I know this is off topic, but I wanna see how well the 5300 card works.
-
Has anyone used the M17 with some rendering programs like Maya or lightwave yet?
-
ok so i called alienware about my gpu temp difference situation and of course because i'm not having any performance problems they suggested not to bother touching the 2 gpus. and not having proper safety equipment (esd mats, esd straps, etc) i really dont feel comfortable removing them and potentially causing any unnecessary problems with my machine. they also mentioned about the heatsinks not put together correctly, it could ruin the gpus. yea i know i'm being a little girl about it, but maybe i'll bring it to work some time since i have all the equipment for this type of thing at work. ALSO, AW said that it's a common concern they've been hearing. the temp differences may be drivers based. so i guess for now, i'm gonna go with, "if it's not broken, don't fix it".
-
you should be able to just stream off off youtube E-wrecked
shznittle...i would still be a bit concerned consideing they have a track record for forgetting to take the tape off the gpu's..... -
-
http://www.watch-movies.net -
i frequent www.surfthechannel.com and www.quicksilverscreen.com, more content than www.watch-movies.net.
-
yea man, www.watch-movies.net work really good. i'm actually watching a movie right now on it. i actually just googled "watch streaming movies" and that popped up. its very very niiiice.
-
okay, so now that i got the AS5 lying around i'm curious about what kind of gains i can get by applying AS5 to the gpu and/or cpu compared to what AW applies on there stock. and if theres a thread or some kind of guide i can get a hold of on applying this stuff on my s*** so i can get a good idea on what i need to do and watch out for.

here's a guide for the 9750...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=205224
hope this is helpful -
less is better..good rule of thumb. you just want enough to fill the microgaps. Don't go slopping it on like ketchup on a burger.
oh, and thanks for the recommendations on streaming. -
so have any of you guys try out those nagamaki bios that mhooper hooked up in the nagamaki thread? if so are they better than the 027 bios? i was at the killer notebooks website and it warned not to go past 11.5 multipliers using the 028 bios. i'm really interested in the ability to apply the multipliers to all 4 cores.
-
go for it. I had the .28 and flashed back yesterday to .27 - I managed to use the x13 multiplier..but Im also running the x9100. KN claims to get the qx9300 to run @ 3.6 Stable. You can give it a whirl, and switch back if you decide otherwise.
-
did you use the bootable disk method or mounted the iso to a blank disk?
-
Hi all, new to the board. Going to be getting the M17 soona nd i am excited. I just have a few questions though.
1st - 1420 or 1900 monitor? Can the human eye really tell the difference?
2nd - Solid State or the 320 @7,200 rpm with an external?
3rd - Can this board support 8 gigs of ram? 64 bit Vista can recognize up to 12 or 16 right?
4th - When they come out with the 4870 mobile cards, can this be upgraded?
5th and last - x9100 3.08 dual core or xtreme quad 2.53 quad core?
Any help would be appreciated. -
4850 and 4870 mobile cards on laptops are out now just not on any DELL systems.
and I doubt it will be upgradeable pull out and snap in new card. -

If you want an extreme, i suggest you get a resller instead of aleanware. because you can overclock. since your going to max it out abd still change parts, i also suggest you getting a reseller because you won't void your warranty changing parts.
1. i only had a 1440*900 and it was fine but i heard that 1900*1200 looks soooooooo much better.
2. if you have the money, and space isnt a issue, go and get the solod state. there are on pros from them not cons.(cept price)
3.it can support 8gb of ram but i'm not sure of alienwares have that option.
4.so far we think the 4850 uses mxm3 which the m17 have a mxm3 and mxm4. so yes so far.
5.depends on what you are doing. since you are using alienware and cant overclock a extreme i find it very useless. the x9100 @stock speeds will beat the qx9300 because of the higher clock. and most apps cant use all 4 cores soooo a dual would be better. but get a quad core anyway.
(you can overclock but it will void your warranty and since you are spending so much i would want it.) -
Has anyone tryed the -
In control panel/ System & Maintenance/
Back up computer
when I clcik on Backup
it opens another window, where it gives 2 options
On hard disk
On one or more Dvds
but when i choose hard disk
the next button doesnt appear, but it does if i choose DVDs
I have 250 x 2 (7200rpm) in Raid 0
Vista Ultimate 64 -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well it wont back up on the same hdd. thats like having a copy of your important documents of a company in the same room or building. if something bad was to happen your screwed. because if the hdd fail then it will to. unless you partition it but that's stupid. you need a external hdd since your in raid.
-
1st - 1920 x 1200 is very very noiiiice.
2nd - F*** solid state devices, they're nice and safe BUT why pay that much for a hard driver for so little room. i went and got the 250GB x2 = 500GB in RAID 0 @ 7200 rpm. AND have a 1TB and 500GB externals. yea...again F*** SSDs.
3rd - don't quote me but i'm pretty sure that it can. as long as it's DDR3 and either 1066mhz or 1333mhz.
4th - i've talked to Alienware about the upgradeable GPUs and (i know sometimes they dont know what they're talking about sometimes BUT...) they said of course they will be upgradeable when or if the 4870s come out for laptops and crossfirex enabled.
5th - and lastly, alot of people went ahead and got the x9100 and yes its stock at 3ghz and is Extreme. BUT why have 2 when you can have 4 cores. and just ask the x9100 owners, alot of them will trade their x9100 for a qx9300 with the quickness.
AND everybody quit saying you can't OC the qx9300. CHECK my sig. I have the m17. and yes my warranty is most likely void. but f*** it, i'm a careful A** dude and as long as u take care of your S*** and refrain from carelessness, then you can push these bad boys as much as the OCZ and KN folks. and with that said, this is my first laptop or anything i've decided to OC. just reminding you folks that being careful, smart about a few things, and ESPECIALLY with a little research about How-to-do certain things go a long way. Whether or not you're new to it. Again, check my sig. and if you want to do the same thing, be brave and check out the forums and study before you go out and put your nearly $5k system at risk. I say why have a system like this when you are too afraid to use it how it's meant to be used. -
Side note: It's unfortunate how Alienware, probably the biggest name in PC gaming, is whimping out on gaming notebook overclocking. But then again, there was that M5790 Special Edition... -
man you were pretty angry
1 1900 is super nice and there is a huge difference i got the 1440 because i couldnt justify 200 when i couldnt play alot of gaes maxed our at 1900 least the new ones
2 ssd are not really worth it right now you can put some in later yours self for cheaper and and not void the warrenty
3 it can support 8 gigs of ram not any thing higher
4 cant say wont say i think it will ....;
5 yes i will say it its future proof .... not optimized for computers now but will be eventually but the dual core is fast to so if money is not object go quad core -
Hi
I need a some help
Can sb tell me pls whether the 1440x900 Display @ m17 supports the 1280x800 resolution?
Thanks

depends on the driver you're using.

still fail to see where it says 4 gpus
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=339943
but on a different note. that asus is looking likewow!
looking like a serious contender there!
are they offering bios over clocking of cpu???
edit:..awwww, no quad core cpu and 25 percent over clocking only....hummmmm...... -
based on the asus specs it looks as if the M17 will be able to upgrade to the
ATI mobile 4870 cards -
15.000 3DMark06? Quite less for 4870x2 ... Or am I wrong?
Moste hardware seems to be less good as that wich is used in the m17 e.g. the RAM ... the HDD ... the CPU ...
If the m17 gets (if its is true with 2x4870x2 @ m17 it would be even better^^) 4870x2 I expect it to score a good jump higher than 15k

Julian -
Hi getting a Alienware laptop in the next few weeks but was wondering will i go with Nivida or ATI graphic
here are the 2 laptops
M17x with nivida gpu
Intel® Core™2 Duo Extreme Processors (6MB Cache, 800MHz FSB)
Up to 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GT SLI
OR LAPTOP 2
Alienware
M17 with ATI gpu
IntelCore™2 Duo Quad and Extreme Processors (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB
Up to 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870 CrossFireX Enabled
it also sayes on the ATI that it will be 80% increase
if the Nivida is a better card then is it better do get the ATI with the quad core processor or nivida with the core 2 possessor they dont give a quad core processor option with the nivida model -
Are you sure that 1st config is not the M17 x?
The M17 is a different animal than the M17x! -
Adding my settings into the mix
Alienware M71 Crossfire X
17" WUXGA Skullcap
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9100 @ 3.06GHz
Dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 512MB Crossfire Enabled
4GB DDR3 Ram 1067MHZ
160GB 7200RPM HDD
Windows Vista Premium 64bit
And a few other extras like the G9 mouse and logitech headset -
sorry the Alienware M17x is the nivida based Graphics card
and the Alienware M17 is the ATI based Graphics card
ati based comes with a quad core processor
and the
Nivida based come with an extream core 2 duo processor
i ring alienware about the laptops and thay sayed you can up grade the graphic card you self is this true can you change the card in a lter date or is the graphis card built to the mother board
also why is the ATI system better -
ATI ANNOUNCED THE MOBILE 4870s AT CES!!!
Time to refresh the M17! -
3dmark scores off the charts?
i don't even wanna know what E-wrecked's gonna hit... 17-18k i should think. -
yah!!! take a look at these screens and info:

Was wondering if going from a P9500 to a QX9300 will be a nice helpful touch for running vmware, gaming, and desktop replacement use.
-
ok cool just a nother question with the aleinware M17 and M17x CAN you upgrade the graphics cards or are they built to the motherboard
-
connected via MXM slots, so they're upgradable.
