My delivery was bumped up. I got a tracking number and should get it Saturday.
That is a whole 8 days from my order date... Good job on the speed AW. I think it may have been overlooked in inspection tho, as it went from Phase 6 to shipping in 1 day. Is that normal?

regards to the drivers for the graphics

i think you will need this site to sort your drivers out.

i have still m9700 alienware laptop and i had to use laptopvideotogo for my nvidia 7900gs graphics cards so as i could update them ( its not just ati) nvidia releases didnt really cover mobile platforms as such you had to use the manufacturing website, and like me if any of you lot are old alienware laptop owners then you know the drivers they did untill 7 months ago were dated 2006.

but as soon as my laptop arrives then if no one has ill post the modded driver ect if i can.

when i find the best ones that is.
ps i found your posts by chance any down sides to the m17 that cannot be fixed.

my laptop needed a keypad which they never had then all of sudden i went from nuts and bolts on desk to packaged laptop.

was on m9700 but id imagine the same thing still happens.

basicly i know its no good to you but its ready when its ready.

as these cards are mxm type 1 11 111 cards ( graphics cards) is their any reason why we cannot differ form ati and nvidia ( only reason i could think of is voltage and heat but in theory i would have thought you could put what ever cards you wanted in your laptop....

Yeah, I don't know if it's these ATI drivers or because I resumed from sleep mode. But, I'm having like sound and video choppy performance from Fallout 3. I know the hardware can handle it - it runs like a champ, - the choppyness from some glitch is what's catching up to it. Anyone know anything about this?

 

It's a known issue.. after resuming from sleep the sound gets choppy. It's either your video, or sound driver. Try a newer set of each. Here's the Realtek download page - http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Try that..then a new video driver if necessary.

 

Actually, after doing some of my own investigating,
I have a different observation of what has caused this sound/video problem.
I reverted back to factory settings after what seemed to be failed attempts at updating drivers...
When I reinstalled the game there was 1 thing that happened differently which results without having this sound/video error after resuming sleep.
A simple direct x update, that happens in installation, was blocked by my firewall the first install of the game
which had the errors.
After factory settings reapplied and reinstall the direct x part, completed normally, allowing to be able to resume sleep mode without these errors.

- Possibly someone can confirm this themselves?
If your having this sound/video issue after sleep and your direct x update, when you installed the game,
concluded in a normal fashion would be a great way to disprove my theory.

Another solution and or possibility would be to NOT install the game into vista's -Program Files- default directory
as the game experiences known issues from this directory for some reason.
after reading that, I first uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game in C:/Fallout 3 dir before making my assumptions.

However, I do believe that the video drivers that are included with the hardware SUCK, imo.

 

I just ordered my first M17 last week! Cant wait to get it, but what the heck is up with Aw's phase deal? Was at phase 1 for two days then got to phase 2 for one day....then went back to phase 1 again. I sent a E-mail to Roswell, never did get a reply back tho. Its kinda drinving me nuts.

 

Same thing happens to alot of peeps I guess. Even myself. I went to phase 3 then phase 1. when I called, mine was at phase 6 and shipped that day... OOOOoooo0000 Exciting! Soon brotha-man, soon! Took about a week - 9 days to get to my door!

hi bud i was looking as ive orderd my m17 too!! about two and a half weeks togo ......maybe ......

i currently got alienware 9700 laptop with two 7900gs cards.

as these laptops now use mxm as standard i should i theory be able to use nvidia graphics cards as well as ati in the m17.....(not both at the same time) but maybe i could put 9800gt into m17 laptop????

so when the new one turns up im gonna put it in and see if it works as i think both cards are mxm 111 so the memory modules will in the same place as well as the holes to bolt the thing down. my dream is to have two 3gig modules in the m17 giving me 6gig ram and two 9800? cards in the m17 ... only issue maybe is bios.... you wont know if you dont try eh!!!

Well i just called AW and they told me im finally in Phase 3...(scratches head) whatever...so i guess im making progress. shipping date is Jan. 26th but we'll see.
Think this computer will be able to withstand the Heat of Afgan? I'll be deployed there in a month and a half.

 

take can of air spray out with you bud.

should handle the heat bud as it has variable fan speeds but may have issues if you playing high end gaming for long periods maybe.

 

My M17 arrived Saturday.... someone please explain why I'm so retarded that I didn't pay $25 for the illuminated keyboard?!!!

 

Well for me, my dad refused to order with the illuminated keyboard, so we're both on the same train.

 

I got the Illuminating keyboard so that i can annoy others as they "try and sleep".
Anyways, what is the big diff. between vist 32 bit and 64 bit. is it just programs they add in??
Furthermore do you have to send in the rig inorder to upgrade the CPU chip? if I were to get a quad core?

 

well, not that it's going to do me any good, but I've e-mailed AW to see if there is a way to upgrade. I'm hoping it's simple since the initial cost is only $25. I just thought it would be annoying, now I realize not having it is annoying!

 

illuminated keyboard is a big thing for me.
I use my computer is very dark areas that I can't find the F-keys without illuminated.

I ordered mine without the illuminated keyboard as well. The part was back ordered at the time and it would delayed my M17 for a week. I'm interested in ordering the part and installing it myself.

 

I'm not too fimilare with the ATI Tech. Just heard its kind of sketchy. anyone have any insight they would like to share?

 

It's costing me $35 instead of the $25 if I had ordered it when I bought the laptop, but the illuminated keyboard is on the way! I had to call alienware tech support to get it. Prepare to be on hold for a while. I think it will totally be worth it.

It's like all those rice-burners running around with the lighting effects underneath!

 

I am going to buy an m17, but i need to know where the best place would be to buy it from. I had an alienware m15x but it fell apart the day i got it so i don't trust alienware. i have $2500 to spend and i need some help to find a reliable company that has a copy of the m17. plz help

My m17 was shipped yesterday, I actually got an email from the Roswell crew with the tracking number - it has to pass through customs first so I should be getting it early to mid week next week. That's what I'm talking about!!!

Can it be, that the Illuminated Keyboard is a real "problem" if you want youre system fast?

I'm not sure - I ordered the illuminated keyboard and it didn't seem to cause a delay - it shipped one day after the original estimated ship date...

Here's to hoping your system gets shipped real soon!

 

Normaly you get it after 10-20 days even if it says 30^^ (How many have you been told?)

PS: my first m17 was send after 15 days and this were around 7 days earlier than the estimated date.

 

I ordered on Dec 28th....stuck in phase 1 for quite awhile - shipped yesterday so 23 days...not too shabby!

I'm still waiting for the 4gb of RAM I ordered for it also...hope it arrives before the laptop...

edit: The RAM has arrived, just picked it up at the post office - sweeeet! AND, tracking info shows the laptop has cleared customs ALREADY!!!I might have it by the weekend!

 

ok so i think im cancelling my alienware and getting a whitebook i cant take it any longer i ordered the 23 and got to phase 7 2 weeks ago i went back to 6 they said it didnt acheive the desired results and havent moved its confirmed the laptop is still in phase 6 so what are some good places to get a white book clone from
