Well, there will always be something better no matter what.
I am happy with my M17 for now and when i stop being happy..ill consider cpu upgrades for it instead of a totally new laptop...
-
Is it me or its 20k with 4870x2 AND a Quad cpu at 4Ghz ?
Seems low to me tbh. -
I would be more intreressted to see the 4870 x2 and a Core 2 Duo T9400 in the M17
Greetings
Julian -
Well SM2 and 3 scores look kinda nice so i guess we have to wait and see
Im more worried about how long its gonna take AW to replace the cards and send it back -
Holy Crap..20k, and I knew that I could pull that with those 4k cards! I'm gonna be buying an ASUS as my next rig. Forget the phantom, it's gonna be smoked by these cards. ASUS, here I come
Gimme 45 days, and I'll be a new owner. Sorry AW.. but I'm bout to cheat on our family.
-
im still in my 30 days and i just cant decide
ddr2= drr3
the screen prozzi and ram and the cards and it cheaper.....its just supieor...imma have to buy the 4870's for like 500 and then its gonna be 600 more then i paid and i could have gotten so much more
i hate the computer world!!!
ughhh -
mr. moo u can sell ur 3870's and ur t9400 and get a qx9300 and two 4870's without spending too much...keep the m17....plus chances are the m17 is easier to upgrade
-
mehhh i know .. imma keep it guys i just hate being tempted
. and ur right halo god ....but i really wanna TRY
to keep this warrenty since it has to last all my collage years because...i wont have any more money
gratz on 2k -
If i got the M17 completely new, my ATI Software Tab should read this: correct?
Driver Packaging Version 8.52.4-080724a-067553C
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 7.01.01.809
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0603
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.7867
Catalyst® Control Center Version 2008.0724.2347.40767 -

Asus tend to be priced competitively in the Australian market so the W90 looks like it may be better than the M17 and cheaper too. Alienware is very expensive here in Australia, after currency conversion and import duty they still demand 1.5x the price of the US systems (Dell are competitive). Technically I could fly to the US pick one up there and fly back and still have spare change.
Anyone found any news links that indicates when alienware will adopt 4870s in the M17? -

nope but i got this outta them and im askign about some other stuff -
What are everyone CPU and GPU temps when gaming?
-
my cpu loads are like low to mid 60's.. gpu's are anywhere between 70-88...dpending on the game
-
Oh ok...tought mine where a bit extreme but i guess its ok then..
Cheers -
those are the same i get
-
keep in mind my t9400 is overclocked to 2.9ghz also lol
-
got a question, after installing e-wrecked's drivers, i noticed a few issues:
Startup for games lags alot more than usual: THQ game startup and valve Left 4 Dead. It hangs on the THQ swirley sign and the valve head with a audio stutter...just me being OCD i guess -
i modded the newest version out 9.2
just a simple mob mod but it works
-
hi all
was thinking of using the whitebook bios..
any pros and cons in doing so... -
Pros: you can overclock.
Cons: wave goodbye to your warranty. you'll lose the AW splash screen on startup. no AW-exclusive programs (Command Center, AlienSense, etc) will work.
your choice. -
Can u help me choose m17 specs for £1,200 - £1,300 please, i'm not sure what will make the performance differences.
-
if you can, wait a few weeks for the HD4870. then, get a config with the WUXGA screen, two HD4870s, 2gb RAM, a lowly HDD, and the highest CPU you can afford.
-
Here are my specs:
Alienware M17 - Skullcap Design (looks meaner than hell)
- Dual 512MB ATI HD 3870's
- Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz Processors
- 4GB DDR3 Memory
- 1TB Harddrive Space
The only thing I downgraded was the BD Player. No interest in Blu-ray on my 17 inch, when I already got one hooked to my 60 inch plasma.
F.Y.I. - there were a few issues when I recieved the system.
1.) Windows Vista 64 was in dire need of a multitude of updates.
2.) Illuminated keyboard wasn't lit.
3.) CrossFireX wasn't working.
4.) And keyboard BIOS was outdated, drastically affecting OS performance.
Yes, this was depressing at first, but despite other people's experiences with customer service, I made a quick call and resolved each issue I otherwise couldn't on my own.
The keyboard update was easy, but I did have to call and confirm it so as to not void my warranty. And as for no illumination, I did have to remove the keyboard to discover that the cable controlling the lights in the board wasn't fully connected. Reseat and resolved.
While I had the system open, it was also clear that somehow the CrossFireX cable came loose, solving my CrossFireX problem. Again, reseat and resolved.
If anyone else is having issues such as the ones described above, check out Alienware's knowledge base for complete detailed instructions concerning reseating keyboard cables and CrossFireX. Really easy to do. And as for BIOS updates, CALL BEFORE YOU PERFORM. They will void your warranty if you do otherwise.
I must say that in the end, this was all worth it. I'm in love with my M17. Everything runs on it beautifully. To put things in perspective, F.E.A.R. 2 -project origin runs orgasmically smooth at FULL graphics, and 1900 x 1200 resolution.
Bottom line, I'm happy. -
Though Alienware has more bad CS issues then it should have. -
Thanks for the advice, i am going to wait, as soon as i get my m17 what should i do driver, software and bios wise? Seems like a lot of work...
-
if i wanted to revert my drivers back to the old ones that originally came with my M17 system (ive installed the 9.1 e-wrecked's modded ones and im not incredibly impressed...)
1) will a system restore suffice?
2) installing the package on my hive area for the driver, would that work?
Concerns; one of his steps uninstalls ATI CCC from the add/remove programs list soooooo im not sure system restore corrects that? plz help if u can -
-
why? what is the problem the one that came with your system are like half a year old ..try the newest 9.2 driver every one has said that they are good
the 9 seris has offer a 10-20% jump in fps for me
but a system restore will work or use driver sweeper
dang fox you beat me to it -
-
no satilite internet is slow
-
-
crap its to slow for me
-
fox they are not working yet im still looking at them though
-
-
we are working on it
-
being a guine pig kinda sucks lol my screen has hit every rez possible lol
-
hahahahahahaha i hate it when that happens
-

-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Well, there's alleged info that Alienware is releasing a BIOS in the near future that will allow for OCing Extreme CPUs.
Here's the thread I started on FN+F12 bringing up the OCing OSD, but not doing anything. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=355687 -
ok cheers guys.
ill stick with the aw bios for now then. -
any word on when the 4870's will be available?
-
nope. shouldn't be much more than few weeks though, since they're already out in the Asus w90.
