Maximus have you tried 9.8/Hotfix drivers. I no longer had any sensor crash issues with everest, GPU-z or the likes after using these instead of 9.7s :)

Weird. I have 9.8 with the hotfix and Everest Ultimate still locks up the computer if I run it when crossfire is enabled.

If you're NB is 2c hotter then your CPU then you're fine. Donda says it should be within 6c of your CPU. Its debatable whether or not the stuttering is NB heat related.

I don't use the mirror image, I use it to 'extend my desktop'. Then make the TV the primary monitor. Games should play fine on it then.

Dunno if you can do so with the mirror image but try setting your TV as the primary monitor. To do it, go into the Catalyst Control Centre, go to Displays, click on monitor 2 (Should be your TV if connected) and I think you click 'Swap' can't remember exactly what it's called.

If you talk to a rep, you should be able to get free shipping. They were giving away free shipping left and right when I made my purchase. I searched around on the net but couldn't find any more coupons to use. AW might have something right off the website to get free shipping.

Can't see any reason why they won't be once mobility modded (they sound like hotfix++ drivers from what I've read). As a new set of 4850s have arrived for me today will confirm once I'm up and running (providing the new cards work!), on the late shift today so just geting out in a few minutes (is almost 10pm here)

Going to try the 9.9s out on my machine in a bit but theres no performance stuff in this set and only fixes etc. Still worth a shot though..

Well they fixed RE5 Crossfire in these drivers .

    1920x1200

65fps under DX10 everything maxxed and no AA

    8x AA 48 fps.

Im back, 9.9's seem to be running fine :)

Johnksss - if you want to see thr 4850s performance, check out my benchmark thread a little while back; I benched with a p8400, and also with my X9100 at 3.325Ghz, also did a BRIEF overclock to see how they'd perform running at 550/850 (they hit 10500 GPU score in Vantage).

They're pretty damn capable...just a little warm lol

at this point you guys can master performance if you can just get a good working crossfire going. i would rather have a bunch of fixes this go round instead of performance..you see what happend when they did it the other way around..lol 8.5 all the way up to 9.8..can 9.9 just fix all that isn't working.. :) :D

post a link and show me the way.

Yeah as far as the 3870s go i dont expect better performance from anything at this point, so crossfire fixes are a good thing . Since i can not get the 4850s ill have to make do with what i have .

Quad, what other games and game benchmarks do you run? I'd like to see if we have similar performance since we almost have the same setup:

I guess most games I can run at max settings all right, but there are a few games (Red Faction: Guerrilla, Need for Speed: Undercover, Section 8), that I need to remove AA/shadows in order to get a decent framerate wiht the 3870s.

Like you, I wish we could get the 4850's...*sigh*

Not sure about Red faction Guerilla yet ill have it tomorrow when i go grab it from gamestop since they got it in early. But i know shadows on medium for that game along with turning off ambient occlusion, softshadows, sun shafts is supposed to help the FPS alot and the game still should look excellent . Thats what i have read on the boards atleast. Ill know more though tomorrow.

Section8 i was not interested in buying since im not a huge online player and its more multiplayer focused . Though with the Unreal Engine games the one that nails the FPS the most is post processing if they have the option for it in the game or you can edit in the inf.

Havent played NFS undeground on the m17 yet though i do have it kicking around some where.

The 9.9s really smoothed things out and i saw increases in GTA4 and Prototype.

Im running Dual boot Win7 RTM and Vista 64 depending on the game im playing since some perform better then others on each OS. Just lots of experimenting.

And yeah i would kill for a set of 4850s but oh well no luck :(.

I didn't know the 9.9s were out until I read the above posts 30 minutes ago. When you use the Mobility Modder, should you use the "Change Memory" function to set it to 512?

I've only messed with Guerrilla a little bit but I'll try your recommendations. Shockingly, I had to turn the resolution to 1400x1050 in order to play it at a somewhat decent framerate 45-60FPS with AA at 2x and shadows at "Low".

Do you usually play your games with V-sync on or off? So you recommend turning Post Processing off, what exactly does it do? Do you overclock the GPUs?

Wish I could just turn everything on and forget about it like those guys with the 4580s and 280s but looks like we gotta tweak to get the best of things.

Well guerilla is bringing many systems to there knees including I7 desktops according to an article i read. Also i never play with AA on period and i have to run at Native resolution or not at all.

Vsync is almost always off id say 99.99% of time because a little tearing does not bother me.

I never overclock the GPUs at all unless i was testing something which i havent on the M17 . I did it on my M17x for Vantage etc to see if i could bust some records but thats about it .

They use different names for post processing in Unreal games , its called Bloom or a few other names but just look for things pertaining to lighting like HDR etc and toy around with those and sometimes you can bring out alot from a game with a couple changes . At 1920x1200 on a 17 inch screen if i have to turn off a couple eye candy things it does not bother me in the least because the screen is small enough where it does not stand out like it would if i had it hooked up to my big monitor.

Oh, okay, I don't feel so bad anymore if it's killing i7 desktops. :) I only played it a little and it didn't look THAT great, must be the way they programmed it. I love games that look great, but are programmed well (like CoD4 and FEAR2) so that it doesn't bring a decent system to a crawl.

dondadah: Lucky you. I could play NFS:UC at 1920x1200 but I had to turn AA down to 2x or off, shadows off/low, and world effects to low in order to get smooth, reliable gameplay out of it. And this is with 9.7/9.8 drivers. In that game, a little hiccup and I'd be in the wall. :(

The biggest issue i see is you want to run AA at all which will just nail the performance on these cards even at 2xAA . You should stay away from the AA :).

    There we go:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404008

Initial post is a long one as I edited in the majority of screenies :) First bunch of about 10 pics are p8400 (2.2Ghz processor) second lot are with the X9100 at 3.325 (which was linpack everyday stable; Im just not running it right now as playing it safe with the Alienware BIOS instead of ZFactor 0.28!)

The picture at the end of the benches is running RE5 with the 9.8 Hotfix, 1920x1200, DX10 (as it didnt work properly with older drivers), I ran this again last night with the 9.9s and that score has increased to 78 average :)

Not sure where the overclocked picture has gone though, will try and dig that up for you, migth have been a seperate thread.

Edit: Ah the picture was hiding near the end of the thread.
Im not running these speeds at the moment mind, this was CPU@ 3.325Ghz, GPU at 560/840, standard clocks are 3.06Ghz CPU and 500/800, CPU will probably be re-overclocked in the future, but wanna be careful with these GPUs :)

Apart from GPU, the SFIV benchmark seems to scale heavily with CPU... look at the difference between the P8400 and X9100 to see what I mean! Still, wish I could run the GPUs at the same clocks as the 3870s...500 core to 625...would be a BEASTY improvement hehe
