hello guys im new to the forum and i want to buy an alienware M17 because now it is very cheap. I cant seem to find anyone who says that the stuttering issues with quad core cpus have been solved, and i was wondering if it is possible to completely get rid of those issues using a quad core processor, is it really safe to buy this laptop with a quad core ? Is the qx9300 really much better than the q9000 ? Is it a good idea to do the upgrade with my friend who works in a laptop repair shop as it will be much cheaper than to order directly from aw ? thx.

The Quadcore issue was never solved 100% im sorry to say and unless you want to put some work into it then i would say stick with a Dualcore.

I have a Qx9300 in mine and only rarely get some stuttering but i can totally live with it quite honestly.. Theres some things you can do to tone down the stuttering like Copper shim etc ..

Best to read the thread Project Freeze. It does not lead to a fix but gives you the best idea of what to expect ..

    Good luck either way ..

thx very much dude. The X9100 will not have any problems at all ? Is there a big difference between x9100 and qx9300 or is it kinda the same ? thx very much quadzilla.

The X9100 will be plenty powerful for what you should need. You can also install the OCZ bios and overclock the living daylights out of the X9100 through the bios(sorta voids the warranty but as long as your careful you can always revert back to the alienware bios) . Id tell you to get the Qx9300 since i love mine but many people have been frustrated by using Quadcores in the machine so just stick with the x9100 and i think you would be more then happy..

there are some but thoses are playing games and noth whining there so you won't hear from them

and as of what it seem to get out of the things i read through the forum the qx9300 seem to be more sensitive to stutering then let's say a q9000

how ever you should only get a quad if you fell really lucky or you don't mind spending time to get it to work at it's best

i was ready to spend time to get my quad to not stuter when i ordered mine and i got a quad that stuter very rarely it don't even happen once a day and i just take the power out and back in to make it stop

and unles you are a heavy multi tasker a quad is not really needed in today gaming but it might get you a bit more future prouf notice well here i said MIGHT cause the future is i7 and i7 power is such that programmer will get used to it and find new imaginative and unproductive ways of wasting your computer power in order to make what ever you have outdated
