Anyone with AW M17X running Crysis?

I'm running X9000 Extreme, 8800m GTX SLI, 4GB stock AW Rams, Vista 32 Home Premium.. Nvidia 174.82 drivers (Pre-installed by AW).

While running Crysis on 1024X768 on High.. it crashes during certain check points...

You would think with a laptop like this you shouldnt run into this kind of problem while running Crysis.. Im quite disappointed.. :(

I read the post in the forum regarding SLI config.. But I didn't want to mess around the the current stock drivers before finding out more....

    Any help is appreciated... Thanks...

Try updating your drivers, Alienware has newer ones available. You can download modded versions, too, for the best performance.

Thanks for your help. AW has a newer one than the 174.82? I went on the AW's download page where they ask you to find the driver for my OS, it still came up the same driver.. where can i look into the new one from AW?

When you say moded ones, do you mean like the one in the forum here, latest TweakForce driver from laptopvideo2go.com?

    Thanks much.

Oh, nevermind, then. Yeah, you can find modded drivers on the forums and from laptopvideo2go.com, try using the new 177.72, that could help. You might also want to download nTune and check your temperature while playing, if the temperatures are getting too high it might cause the m17x to crash, which isn't good at all, especially for Alienware, who's dealt with a lot of problems and returns with the m15x.

BTW, running high settings in DirectX9 instead of DirectX 10 will look exactly the same, but will result in better performance and cooler temperatures. The only

go to laptopvideo2go, they usually have the newest drivers. just make sure to follow the instructions and add the modded .inf.

Thanks. I guess I will have to try to redo my video drivers then..

If anyone else with M17X having the same problem, please post to see if we can find the solution for this..

    Thanks.

probably just a bug in the game or the driver. probably there will be an update for crysis sometime in the future.

I presume your game is bought, otherwise if it is acquired any other way then that could easily contribute to the crashes you are experiencing. I am not accusing or implying anything just telling you.

Try and enable vsync, could help, monitor temps, update drivers (SLI has had some problems from what i have heard). What error messages if any comes up when it crashes? Are u thrown back to windows vista (or are u using xp?) or does the computer restart/turn itself off? Do u get a blue screen of death in that case?

Need more information from you to actually come up with anything specific or detailed, just saying it crashed doesnt give us a lot to work with!

I understand your frustration of getting a new laptop and having problems with games! It is sucks! Have you patched Crysis to the latest 1.2.1 patch?

You could also try, if nothing of the above work, disable SLI and run it with only one graphic card. This will see if there is a problem with your SLI configuration or something else. At the moment it could be anything as horrible as a faulty GPU to just a windows vista bug or a rat running wild inside your laptop :)

Yes, the game was bought retailed version. Clean installed onto my brand new out of box m17x. then installed crysis patch 1.2, restart, then installed patch 1.2.1, then restart.

The crash happens sometimes in random and sometimes during certain check points in the game.. the game would just SHUT OFF, and then thrown back into DESKTOP. The computer still seems normal function back to desktop.

I really want to change a differernt driver, but I am scared to do it without more knowledge of which one works the best with my current setup. I have read in other forums that putting the wrong drivers can really screw you up so thats why im still using the 174.82 driver from AW..

Because from the stock driver that is the best frame rate so far I feel I can run it.

At DX 9, 1024x768 with everything on HIGH, at a respectable frame rate of 30-40.

The frame rate drops to low 20s and sometime stutters in higher res.

Am i suposse to be running more from this setup?

my m15x (specs in sig) can run Crysis at all high at 1440x900 at about 18-22fps. i can run CCC mod at lvl 4 with DX10 at about 25fps. if you have an m17x, you should be able to get a bit more out of your rig if you're willing to lose some fps.

Try running crysis in single gpu. If that fix the problem then it Crysis and there lack of skills to setup for sli or crossfire setups. The other problem is like Lord of the rings some areas I am running at 45 to 50fps and others it 16fps on the same setup.

Running Crysis on native resolution with all settings on high. Using stock Alienware drivers and have not experienced any crashing. My M17X came with 2.8cpu and dual8800 gtx cards with sli. Running Vista Ultimate OS but that should not make any difference playing games.

You gotta be kidding me, my single 8800m GTX ran crysis with 1680x1050, all high, 2xAA, 30fps during gun fight. sounds like not only you have a decade old driver, but also forgot to turn on SLI.

They are not beta, they are from nvidia. not sure about AW but 99% of gamers use drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Bebarhood, this why i havent tried installing any other drivers yet... im not sure if that is the best choice yet... if anyone know so.. please advice.

i just wonder why AW would not install the best and latest driver for one of the best laptop around.. i was afraid to f around with any other drivers to worsen things.....

i can understand there might be some problems from crysis side.

but from talking in the forum, i really dont feel like im getting the performance i should be... with x9000 extreme, and the dual 8800m gtx sli setup....

What I read up on quad core and dual types of desktops have the same basic problem.

So the problem drops back to Crysis.

    Problem FIXED.

Alienware sent me 2 brand new 8800m GTX cards. I had to swap them myself. All the problems went away - bad gaming performances, apparent overheating, crashing in games after awhile, flickering in non-sli games, nvlddmkm errors, power adaptor light shuts off after a period of time gaming..

I guess I was just one of the unfortunate ones that had a bad video card (the slave one to be exact).

NOW, im happy with my m17x! I can now run Crysis 1900x1200 with everything on HIGH and still get a FPS of around 30. 3dmark06 12500 on stock 174.82 drivers.

Glad to hear it works, please can you run 3Dmark06 ans see if your score is around 500 lower than AW's benchmark on your report sheet.

I'm also using the stock drivers, i tried the 177.89 and the computer worked fine except for media player and power dvd wouldn not play normal DVD's... i'm thinking there may need to be some development for the 880GTX Sli driver set-ups... seems single GPU's can use the updated drivers with no issues.

Hope you enjoy it, i'm going to try Bioshock tonight (",)

I have played Oblivion at 1920x1200 with ultra high selected and the complete Quarls texture pack loaded too... runs great

my score is about 300 lower than AW's test. why would they test higher than our actual test?.. ive tried turning off all the back processes, and not making much differerence. ive seen m1730 users posted online with minor oc on the gpu and oc x9000 to 3.2 and have a score of 15000! now i wish aw can provide a newer driver and the update bios for us m17x users to reach our max potential.

I pulled out my gpus to clean them. I lost 200 in the score. 6800 When before It was 7000+. What happen is the cord that went to one gpu to the next. One was lose.

In the 8800 is there a plug from one GPU to the Secondary GPU. if that cord was lose you will lose 200 to 300 Points on the 3dmarks

AW runs their tests at 1024x768 which is not the regular resolution for 3dmark. Because of that they end up netting an extra 300 points. Your system is scoring fine.

There seems to be various drivers that have been recommended for the Sli to work, i'm still using the standard drivers that were shipped with my m17x and she's playing everything fine. I might try the 177.83 drivers to see if they work with DVD's...eventually, i'm going to play for a bit first though lol

I'll let you know about Bioshock at full res.. Been playing Oblivion at full... it's awsome, i'm also using QTP3 and 4096 LOD files so the graphics are about 3 times the detail lol
