    Hello,

I've had my M17x for about a week now and today I connected it to my HD TV (Panasonic Viera - about 1 yr old) with an HDMI cable.

I was using the Cyberlink Power DVD 8 that came with the computer but since upgraded to the version 9 ultra.

When I play a blue ray disk, I get video but no audio on the TV. The computer automatically selects the HDMI output under Vista (64 bit) and as far as I can tell the computer thinks its sending the audio because the sound shuts off on the internal speakers.

Has anyone successfully connected their M17x with one of these Panasonic plasma TVs via HDMI and got both audio and video to work?

Any help is very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Frank

right click on audiio icon in notification area of taskbar and select playback devices>Nvidia HDMI out. You might need to install the drivers because it should work automatically when HDMI connection is detected.

i have this same tv, well mine is a 58pz800u, and i have no problem with the audio synching. do you have the latest audio drivers 9/09 dates. try that first and see if it helps, if not let me know what tv you have exactly and i can help from there.

    Hello,

I certainly appreciate any help or suggestions you can give.

I have the Panasonic Viera Model No. TH-50PZ85U

I have attached a screen shot showing my audio driver information. Most of the knowledgebase stuff I've read and searched already talks about Realtek Audio but I have IDT. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Also, when I connect the HDMI cable to the TV, I get video just fine and when I pull up the audio playback devices from the system tray, I switches to the HDMI output and has the little green check by it. It also shuts off the computer speakers so I think the computer is trying to send the audio it just seems the TV is not receiving or interpreting it right.

    Thanks,
    Frank

Heres a screenshot of mine, I think the Nvidia high definition audio drivers are included in the chipset driver package.

I went out to the Dell site and downloaded the latest IDT audio driver and Nvidia video driver for the M17x and retested with no luck.

I did check the settings again in Cyberlink Power DVD 9 again and it said the list of compatible sound cards are:

HD Audio Compatible Sound Card and Codec List
    Realtek ALC885 (support up to 192kHz/24bit 2-channels or 96kHz/24bit 4-8 channels)
    Realtek ALC889 (support up to 192kHz/24bit 2-channels or 96kHz/24bit 4-8 channels)
VIA EnvyHD Vinyl VT1818S codec (support up to 192kHz/24bit 8-channels)
VIA EnvyHD Vinyl VT1828S codec (support up to 192kHz/24bit 8-channels)
VIA EnvyHD Vinyl VT2020 codec (support up to 192kHz/24bit 8-channels)
Auzentech X-Fi HomeTheater HD (supports HDMI 1.3a bit-stream lossless pass-through

So now I'm wondering if Dell changed the sound card in the M17x from the Realtek which everyone else seems to have to this new IDT one and now it's not supported by the blue ray player software.

As you can see by my screen shot, I don't even have an Nvidia HDMI playback device.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks,
    Frank

Just guessing that the IDT driver is what you get with the BluRay player--is that screenshot taken while you are connected to the TV?

Aren't those IDT drivers are for a headset?

uh, no the idt drivers are the audio drivers for the m17x. i think you should download klite 5.10... those are codecs for almost all formats. start there. then make sure there is not a setting on your tv to allow audio through hdmi. I think that mine has that feature. next, make sure you are not in hybrid mode as there is no audio on the 9400. nest update your chipset drivers if you have not already done that... let us know and we will go from there

Ok I just spent an hour working on the same scenario (I also have a Panasonic viera). What seems to be happening is that the Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 does not output sound to the tv. The video is there but no audio. So I tried running a video file I have saved to the HD through Windows Media Player while connected VIA HDMI cable and there was sound. Couldn't find anything in the Cyberlink settings however, but the M17x does output sound, just can't find anything using the dvd player. Also I was playing a Blu-Ray when I did all of this.

Please if anyone has any Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 tips, they will be much appreciated.

So, I'm not alone with the lack of audio on tv via hdmi out :(
I spent an hour on the phone with guy from alienware support and he was not able to solve the problem, for me it's not a big issue because I have an external soundcard (creative x-fi) with optical out which I connect to my onkyo receiver, bit still I would be happy if somebody can find the soulution for this

I'd like to add that I have no audio at all on any player even winamp
