Hello guys i need some help with this laptop. I was planning on buying this laptop for $575+shipping and hoping to upgrade to today's CPU and GPU. here are the specs of the laptop when it was the best of the best back in the day....

I was wondering since this laptop has a P4 LGA 775 CPU, am i able to throw that cpu out and put something recent like E8400 or maybe a Q6600 since those go for just around 110-120 bucks? i have no clue when it comes to Alienware. i'm sure they are upgradable friendly unlike my HP DV9000 that i can only upgrade ram/cpu/hdd. i was wondering if i can add newer gpu on this laptop as well? is it even possible to add a 45nm LGA775 CPU on this bad boy of the past? i'm sure heat would not be an issue since the 45nm would run so much cooler than that mini oven P4 3.8GHz crock pot. I am only planning on buying this for the sole purpose of upgrading the gpu/cpu to today's generation level. do you guys think its a good deal and if its worth it?

thanks for the fast reply guys. really appreciate it. hum.... i was wondering if Alienware sells any barebone notebooks with just the casing w/lcd, motherboard, psu, and gpu. so i can put my own HDD's, cpu, and ram in it to keep the cost low. i think Sager sells barebones like that (not sure at all though) but i don't like Sager's looks anyways. its too plain, on the other side, i love Alienware, its like ooooooo look at me guys :D i'm on fire :elvis:

They're not doing this, this is the main difference between Clevo and AW :)

can you point out any reliable/good resellers?

awww man :( i wished AW would sell barebone systems. that would probably attract a lot of customers :D i would if i owned a company like that, just sell them basic things, and let them figure out what they want to put in and keep the cost down. why spend 3K on a laptop that you can buy as barebone and buy parts your self and put it together for maybe $2300-$2500 ofcourse someone might only see this figures by buying 2nd hand gup's and cpu. i've bought like 80% of my desktop and 100% of all the upgrades i got in tihs DV9500 CTO is 2nd hand, and its been awesome. i think i got a one kick @@@ T8300 thats running at VID: 1.0357V 3hrs orthos stable at max temp of just 50*C and this was just 1st step of many to come.. (i still want to believe i got a cherry picked T8300 but i don't cause it sounds too good to be true) but back to the subject. i actually do have a cherry picked famous Week 37 Q6600 that i can run prime95 stable for 24hrs on air @ 3.8GHz with just AS5 and Xigmatek S1283 cooler. i want to put this Q6600 in a laptop and undervolt it. and i was hoping to give my Q6600 a cool looking home to reside under AW badge :D
