As you guys know, when i placed an order for my m17x it was delayed for a week because the mug i had added to the order was out of stock. Eventually it was placed on back-order and my m17x order sent for processing.

It was with great surprise that when my m17x was delivered the mug was with it in a seperate box... so much for being back-ordered, unless they came in really quickly?

Either way i got my whole order at the same time three weeks form the date of placing it. :)

So after much discussion i thought i should do a short review of the mug so it's not left out and also in case anyone wants to buy one (",)...

"The mug with it's friend (note the heat shielding - coaster lol)"

Well, it's a ceramic based mug with a nicely shaped handle. I would estimate that it's of medium weight but comfortable to hold all the same.

The stealth black coating and exclusive logo set it off against all my other mugs and there's no blemishes in the finish.

I have performed a full range of benchmarks and here's the results :-

Resolution testing - it performs very well at full resolution with no artifacts that can be seen. I also have the latest drivers just to make sure performance is at it's best.

Cold performance - was very good, there was minimal leakeage and i didn't think any additionap cooling was necessary.

Heat performance - passed with flying colours. It was able to withstand 100DegC without any cracking of the casing or downclocking. This may be due to the updated drivers (",)

Finally it has had to withstand the ultimate mug benchmarking, the Dish Washer stress test

I am very happy to tell you that it passed with flying colours. There was no downclocking, power failures or defects in the casing or finish.

All in all i am very happy with the mug and given it's performance i can forgive the weeks delay.

Thanks Alienware for anothe great product.

I am now awiting for the skullcap edition to be released and possibly other colours as well, that way i can have the whole set...(",)

    OB

    Update 1

I've had a few requests for additional information :-

    F. P. S. ( Fills Per Second) rate - 4 In & 1 Out (This is of course not counting buffer overflowing, or storage over-spilleage)

    3dmark score - I would give it 10 out of 10 (",)

    F. P. S. Score = So far this is stands at 12 (this is with the storage cache at empty through to full each time)

It has excellent Fill and Re-Fill rates, without apparent degradation to the unit or storage quality/capacity.

"Does the logo change color based on heat or cold fills?

    Update 2

After further testing, more results just in :-

The build quality is very good, I have performed various tests :-

Shake test - No rattles or sounds or loose components

Tilt Test - I have tested the Mug at a variety of angles and so far no cracks in the casing or any other signs of stress related defects.

    M. T. C. Test (Mug To Coaster) - This was performed over 30 times and no defects were found.

Drop test - Unfortunately this would void my waranty and until i have no further use for the Mug this particular test will have to wait...

Heat Dissapation Pipe (Handle) - this performs very well, there is no heat loss felt between the pipe and digit interface area. I was able to maintain full contact without any complications or downclocking of the unit itself.

    Update 3

The stealth black coating seems to suffer from "microscopic surface contamination" but, these can be easily removed with the aid of a soft material based cleaning system and a little manual dexterity.

Another good way of removing and surface contamination is the use of solvent based cleaning products combined with H2O, chemical analysis revealed the solution's nickname to be "Fairy Liquid".

"Is there a varying dexterity version of this product?

"Is a 64 bit operating system supported, for increased RAM useage?

whizzo - Well i believe this would involve updrading to the 64 Bit version, unfortunately when i enquired about this, i was directed to the website which only supports 32 bit Mugs. Apparently it's a driver issue... (",)

ryujin - No cracks so far... I've tested the handle at various angles and there's no creaks either (",)

frenchdork - Not at the moment, as i said i'm waiting for the Skullcap edition and/or new colours (",)

MrDJ - Just Here to Serve (",) Glad you like it, yup it's great, no slow booting and never needs defraging ha ha ha

    Ennea - I don't blame you, it's a really good design.

Perhaps we should all have mugs and take shots of them with our machines, possibly take them on holiday and take shots of them on the beach etc... (",)

I have this mug and I think you should be aware...DO NOT perform these tests with a FULL mug, as leakage WILL result. I have PM'd every Alienware representative on these forums about a fix for this design flaw that AW should have known about before this mug ever shipped!!!! Hopefully the m16oz will have a fix for this.

Also, if necessary, the mug can be defragged with superglue and a lot of patience.

i think its a bit unfair that they are not available in Australia though.
the liquid cooling system would end up all over their laps and that would be a problem with health and safety.

with all due respect to ODB... he still hasn't tested the mug properly for at least a month or 2... so we have no idea if the heat would unglue the handle, making it drop and snap into multiple pieces yet.

So yea I agree with gspot, at least get the 1 year warranty and when you have enough cash, get the extension to 3 years.
