Hi guys, im planning to buy the AW2310 for my M17xR1 with Sli GTX280m. So here's couple questions:

    1) Will 120hz work? This is the main reason im buying it. Im really eager to try out the smoothness provided by 120hz when watching 24fps videos
    120HZ vs 60HZ LCD

    2) Does 3D work with my system?

    3) Im planning to plug in my PS3 into the monitor as well via HDMI, any idea wad kind of audio output the monitor has? Is it the red and yellow (standard TV R&L) or the green (standard PC output) ones??

Since the HDMI slot will be occupied by my PS3, i will need to use the DVI port for my laptop. Which converter is better, HDMI to DVI or DisplayPort to DVI? And will everything (120hz and 3D, and perhaps audio) work with these kind of converter?

    Thanks guys

not sure about the rest, but Audio is not carried over DVI. HDMI connections and DVI are identical as far as video is concerned, (with a different layout of the plug obviously) but DVI can't carry sound.

Thanks for the reply, but from what i found from wiki Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia it actually says some dvi supports audio from hdmi

    HDMI audio support

Since 2008, PC manufacturers have gradually upgraded the PC's controller to support HDMI-output in addition to DVI. Due to electrical and pin compatibility between the DVI and HDMI, only a simple passive adapter (or DVI-D to HDMI cable) is necessary in order for the PC to output HDMI to a compatible HDMI-display (such as a television), and take advantage of HDMI features (such as audio output.)

    Is this true? Ideas any1?

There is no smoothness in 120fps, this is only provided for TV's and it's called "smooth motion" ... 120fps allows it to be done but it does not work on monitors

It will be smooth compared to a 60hz screen because a 24p movie won't result in screen tearing.

@OP, that monitor requires dual-link DVI to output 120hz, which the HDMI output might not support. The DisplayPort would be a better idea.

I also recall the audio input and output being 3.5mm ("standard pc" as you called it). Not that it makes much of a difference, since you can buy an RCA-to-3.5mm cable for next to nothing if you need it.

What he is referring to is what you see on display at like Fry's and whatnot where it is super smooth...That is the smooth motion video.

If you would like further clarification as to what he actually means please follow the link to the thread that he posted in his original post. When playing 24p video, 60hz screens suffer from what is known as "telecine judder" and 120hz monitors do not.

Pretty sure you would have to get an active DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter for about $100

That is the ONLY way it MIGHT work. The HDMI is 1.3 and cannot do that screen res and refresh rate. DVI CAN carry sound if the screen supports receiving sound from DVI. Usually you would have DVI output to an HDMI device in which case the DVI can carry the sound properly
